Florida Marlins at Atlanta Braves

Florida fell 12-3 in the second game of this three-game set in Atlanta, falling 8 1/2 games back in the NL East race.  The 12 runs allowed were a season-high by the Marlins and starting pitcher Ricky Nolasco managed to last just two innings.  “I just stunk.  I didn’t throw anything where I wanted to,” said Nolasco.  The club still has seven  meetings remaining in the season series which includes today’s series finale at Turner Field.  The Fish expect rookie outfielder Mike Stanton to get the start in right field this afternoon after not starting in the previous two games.  Also, third baseman Wes Helms is also expected to return after sitting out the first pair of games in this series.  Florida still holds a solid 27-23 record against divisional opponents (+460) and the total is 26-21 O/U in those contests.  The Marlins also possess a winning 17-15 mark in daytime games and are 64-58 under the sun the past three years (+1,060).

The Carolina Panthers have had an awful preseason. In their first two games the Panthers have not been able to score an offensive touchdown. First-string, second-string, third-string, whatever-string – no offensive touchdowns in two games. Not good. The lone Panther touchdown came on a 31 yard fumble return by C.J. Wilson in week 1 against the Baltimore Ravens. Then John Kasay missed the PAT. It has been that kind of preseason for the Panthers.

The Ravens are 4 point home favorites over the Giants today.
The New York Giants (1-1) will have starting quarterback Eli Manning back on Saturday for their matchup with the unbeaten Baltimore Ravens (2-0) after he missed the previous game due to a head injury.  The Giants could definitely use him following a 24-17 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers last week in which backup Rhett Bomar played the entire game.  The Ravens have covered both of their preseason games so far and enter this contest as solid favorites at -4 on the current NFL odds.
