A tremendous pitching matchup is set for Sunday’s contest, with both teams looking to capture the series.

New York Yankees at New York Mets

The New York Yankees look to capture the series on ESPN Sunday Night Baseball, with the team coming in with a 10-3-1 series record during the season.  The Yankees have compiled a 7-7 series finale mark in 14 opportunities in 2010.  Offensively, New York left 13 runners on base in its fourth loss in five games and the first three hitters in the lineup were 0-for-13 on Saturday.  Facing a left-handed pitcher will cause little concern for the Bronx Bombers, producing a 9-6 record against them this year (+110) and have gone a dominating 74-48 over the last three years (+480).  Betting the Yankees in May has been a losing proposition, with the team just a game over .500 (-320).

  • Millwood has received just 27 runs of support in his nine starts and the Orioles have scored just 16 runs while he is in the game (4-5 O/U).

Both the Chicago White Sox and Oakland Athletics are poised to complete a sweep of their opponent on Sunday.

Florida Marlins at Chicago White Sox

Florida managed to score just a single run on Saturday, ending a season long stretch of 23 scoreless innings.  In its last six road games, the Marlins have been held to three runs or fewer five times (5-0-1 O/U).  “We need to make an adjustment and start scoring runs again,” said 2B Dan Uggla.  A win today would keep the team’s May record above .500 (11-10, +40), which is still a remarkable improvement from a disastrous 9-20 record in the month last season.  Florida is 12-16 against right-handed starters this season (-600), but has garnered a 131-125 mark the last three seasons (+810).

Steve Nash had a bruised eye which will hopefully heal by Sunday, but the Suns as a whole will have a difficult time coming back from an 0-2 deficit against the Lakers for the Western Conference Title. In Game Two the Lakers came out strongly and evidently the 7.5 point favorites which the odds makers pinned them. The Suns gave up a 36 point first quarter, and even though the Suns tightened their game, the Lakers ran away with it in the fourth quarter. The Lakers travel to Phoenix for Game Three of the Western Conference Finals Series.

The Mets look to breakthrough with their first Subway Series victory at Citi Field against the Bronx Bombers

New York Yankees at New York Mets

The New York Yankees picked up a 2-1 road victory over their Subway Series rivals on Friday night.  In winning five straight over the Mets (+500), the Yankees have outscored them by a 35-4 margin.  The starting rotation has led the charge during the current streak, posting a 5-0 record and 0.84 ERA.  One key trend that ended with the opening series victory was the Yankees’ streak of winning games by more than a single run.  They won each of their first 25 games by two runs or more.  New York has compiled a 7-3 record in its last 10 road games in interleague play (+240).

The Angels and Cardinals prepare for Game 2 of an interleague clash, with both scheduled starters looking to turn around their season.

Los Angeles Angels at St. Louis Cardinals

Los Angeles struggled to shut down St. Louis’ offense in the first three innings on Friday night, ultimately falling, 9-5, in the first game of the series.  The Angels started the year 4-2 on the road, but are now 4-11 in their last 15 road games (-320 overall).  One of the main problems for the team offensively is producing extra-base hits, as the team has just 123 compared to 168 by their opponents this season.  The starting rotation has been the team’s main barometer in the first 44 games this season, posting a 1.70 ERA in 20 wins and a 7.65 ERA in 24 losses.  The Angels are in the middle of a stretch of playing 21 of 27 games on the road, as they will fly the most air miles of any team in 2010 (50,509).

Either you are at least a little bit surprised by what the Boston Celtics have accomplished so far in the playoffs or you weren’t paying attention during the regular season. They won 50 games to finish fourth in the Eastern Conference, but they didn’t earn a lot of style points doing it. Their older players looked really old, the team wasn’t playing with cohesion, and only Rajon Rondo seemed to have taken a step forward from the previous year. Yet here they are. They beat a pretty good Miami team easily, dominated what was widely seen as the best team in the league, and are now in very good shape against the Magic after two games. They’ve faced the toughest path of any team in the playoffs, and come out of it looking brilliant. They have been like a whole new team for bettors as well – they burned bettors’ money by going 33-47-2 ATS during the regular season, but have been a fantastic 10-3 ATS in the playoffs.
