The Orlando Magic are trying to take a step toward making NBA history Wednesday night. They are trying to become the first team to come back from a 3-0 series deficit.

The Magic beat the Celtics 96-92 in overtime Monday to stay alive in the series. They are trying to repeat the feat that the Philadelphia Flyers pulled off in their Conference Semifinal series against another team from Boston – the Bruins.

American Idol is the number one reality show on TV for five years running. Last Tuesday 27 year-old Casey James from Ft. Worth, Texas was eliminated. Though all four judges gave positive feedback after his performance on Tuesday, America voted. Americans vote and Americans also wager. After James’ elimination, a huge shift occurred in the American Idol lines and Crystal Bowersox, a favorite through most of the season is now the underdog going into the finale of American Idol: Season Nine. The show is now down to its final two contestants – two 24 year-olds both of whom are open to prosperous careers after the show.

A pair of first-place teams square off at Petco Park in the opening game of a three-game series.

St. Louis Cardinals at San Diego Padres

St. Louis is set to begin its six-game road trip against the San Diego Padres, after completing a successful 5-2 homestand against Washington, Florida and the Los Angeles Angels (+194).  The Cardinals have produced a 26-19 overall record in large part to their strong pitching staff, raking second in the league with a 3.07 ERA, just behind tonight’s opponent.  The team has an even 11-11 record on the road this season (-240), including an even 3-3 mark against the NL West (-55).  Runs are tough to come by at Petco Park, which places even more pressure on star 1B Albert Pujols to break out of a slump.  The three-time MVP is 3-for-20 in his last six games and doesn’t have an RBI in his last nine.

It seems like there is no escaping the Stephen Strasburg hype. The guy has been eating hitters alive in the minor leagues (three straight scoreless outings), and any day now I expect his first major league start, likely June 4, to be named a national holiday. There is so much attention and hype surrounding Strasburg that there is absolutely no chance of betting value in his debut – or likely all year for that matter. Despite the absence of opportunities with him, young pitchers making their major league debuts can provide very attractive value to people who have been paying attention and who realize what the pitchers are capable of and what they have been doing in the minors. Here’s a look at five guys who aren’t as hyped as Strasburg, or even as much as Cincinnati prospect and recent Cuban defector Aroldis Chapman, but who we should see playing with the big boys in the not-so-distant future.

Favre’s ankle surgery could be sign for QB’s return

It’s looking more and more like Brett Favre will be back for a 20th season in the NFL. The Vikings QB had arthroscopic ankle surgery Friday which would enable him to participate in the Vikings’ training camp in July. While Favre didn’t officially comment on his plans to return for another season, this strongly suggests that Favre will be back in purple and gold for the 2011 season.

The school will disclose all the details about the allegations and its self-imposed penalties in a reports set to be released on May 24. The allegations against Rodriguez include failing to create an environment of acceptance within the football team as well as failing to track his staff’s actions to ensure his players’ compliance with the NCAA rules. The allegations state that he failed to make sure that his players were following rules on the amount of time spent on football activities.

The first weekend of interleague play is in the books and these two teams are ready for an AL East showdown to kick off an exciting week.

Boston Red Sox at Tampa Bay Rays

Boston won two of three games in Philadelphia, including an 8-3 victory on Sunday over Phillies ace Roy Halladay, grabbing a series victory in the year’s first interleague weekend.  The Red Sox will now continue a six-game road trip, heading to Tropicana Field to take on the first-place Rays.  The road team will certainly have revenge on its mind, after being swept by the Rays at Fenway in a four-game home series back on 4/16-4/19/10.  During that series, Boston was outscored 24-9, losing all four games as a home favorite (-592).  Being 10-14 against the division has done the Red Sox no favors (-780), as they are 8.5 games back of the Rays heading into this three-game set.
