The New York Mets had its eight-game winning streak snapped on Saturday afternoon, dropping the second game in the series, 5-3.  The club is still a dominating 19-6 in its last 25 games since May 22, giving them the best record in the majors over that span.  The Mets still hold a 3-2 record against the Yankees this season, but will be up against a 3-9 all-time mark in series in the Bronx.  Starting rotation has carried the load especially on the road, posting a 9-2 record and 2.99 ERA in their last 11 games away from Citi Field.  The staff still has quite a disparity between its home/road numbers, with the team having a 4.66 road ERA compared to just 2.73 at home.

The second installment of the Subway Series takes place at Yankee Stadium this weekend.

The New York Mets come into this series as the hottest team in baseball, after picking up a sweep of the Indians with a 6-4 victory on Thursday night.  “We’re doing a lot of good things,” manager Jerry Manuel said.  Much of their recent success has come against two of the worst teams in the American League (Baltimore and Cleveland), but now the degree of difficulty goes up with 10 straight against the Yankees, Tigers and Twins.  “Right now, we can play with anybody,” shortstop Jose Reyes commented.  “Right now, we’re playing very good.”  OF Jason Bay will be a key player in the series, going 7-for-10 with two home runs versus the Yankees in May.  He is batting .402 with five long balls and 23 RBIs in 25 games against the Bronx Bombers since the start of the 2008 season.  The Mets are 8-1 during interleague play this year (+790), with the eight victories being the most in the majors.

The New York Yankees picked up a 2-1 road victory over their Subway Series rivals on Friday night.  In winning five straight over the Mets (+500), the Yankees have outscored them by a 35-4 margin.  The starting rotation has led the charge during the current streak, posting a 5-0 record and 0.84 ERA.  One key trend that ended with the opening series victory was the Yankees’ streak of winning games by more than a single run.  They won each of their first 25 games by two runs or more.  New York has compiled a 7-3 record in its last 10 road games in interleague play (+240).
