Playing the total is a definite option for bettors in the first game of this NL series.

San Francisco Giants at Milwaukee Brewers

San Francisco dropped a 4-3 decision to the Colorado Rockies in 15 innings on Sunday at Coors Field.  The club is four games into a season-long 11-game road trip that takes the team through three different time zones.  “We need to be more consistent on both sides of the ball,” manager Bruce Bochy said.  Since June 22, the Giants have lost 10 of 12 games and have been outscored by a 67-42 margin.  San Francisco’s recent troubles has caused the team to fall back a season-high 7.5 games in the NL West divisional race.  The team has good reason to be confident in playing the Brewers, as the Giants have posted their best record against NL Central opponents this season (15-7).  San Francisco played at Miller Park twice last season, going 3-3, but the club has won just six of their last 23 games in Milwaukee.

As is always the case when we enter July there are a bunch of NFL free agents who haven’t landed on a new team yet, but who still have some rubber left on their tires. The Tigers are an overvalued favorite with a rookie making just his third career start, but the Orioles can’t be trusted anywhere.

Baltimore Orioles at Detroit Tigers

Baltimore avoided a three-game sweep on Sunday by defeating the Boston Red Sox, 6-1, at Fenway Park.  The Orioles have lost 16 straight road series dating back to last September.  The offense has been a major weakness for the last place club in the AL East, managing to be shut out or score one run 21 times and have scored three runs or fewer 46 times in the first 80 games of the season.  With the low-scoring from the Orioles, the total in their games stands at 33-44-3 O/U for the season.  Baltimore is hitting a combined .242 on the road and scoring an average of just 3.1 runs.

The World Series of Poker has been underway at the Rio Hotel in Las Vegas since May 28. There are 57 different events in all that take place at the event, but the one that matters more than any others is The Main Event. The Super Bowl of poker crowns the world champion each year, and the winner becomes both very famous and very rich. Last year 6,494 players each paid $10,000 to play in the event, and we should see about that many again this year.

The Angels look to avoid being swept at home for the first time in 77 series tonight in front of a national audience.

Kansas City Royals at Los Angeles Angels

Kansas City was led by pitcher Bruce Chen starting Saturday’s game with six perfect innings before eventually picking up a 4-2 road victory against the Los Angeles Angels.  “I’ll have to get my dictionary out to find a better word than awesome, great, fantastic,” manager Ned Yost said about the start.  The Royals have reached the halfway point of the season, going 36-45 through 81 games, after going 35-46 at this point of the year in 2009.  Last night’s victory also gave the Royals three straight series victories over the St. Louis Cardinals, Chicago White Sox and Angels.  The Royals are going for their first three-game series sweep of the season.

The Rockies are a difficult team to deal with at home especially during the month of July.

San Francisco Giants at Colorado Rockies

San Francisco earned an 11-8 come-from-behind victory last night over Colorado ace Ubaldo Jimenez at Coors Field.  The club has still lost nine of their last 11 games, but finally broke over the three-run barrier.  During the team’s seven-game losing streak, the offense failed to score more than three runs over that span.  “After losing so many in a row, we weren’t going to roll over and die,” said outfielder Nate Schierholtz.  Closer Brian Wilson continues to shut the door when given the opportunity, picking up his 22nd save of the season last night.  The Giants stand at an even 15-15 during the day this season (-260), with the total going 11-16-3 (O/U) in those contests.  The offense is batting .251 in the afternoon in 2010, while combining to hit just .225 over the past seven games.
