In making their 15 appearance in the playoffs in 16 years, the defending champing Yankees appear vulnerable heading into the postseason. The Yankees, who are trying to be the first team to repeat since they did it in 1998-2000, finished the season 13-17 and missed winning the division by one game to the Tampa Bay Rays.
The Tampa Bay Rays finished the American League with the best record and that gives them home-field advantage in the first two rounds of the playoffs. But because the wild-card team is in their division (Yankees), the Rays do not get to face the wild-card team. They get the Texas Rangers and left-handed ace Cliff Lee in the opener. It hardly seems fair.
Here are the updated state farm home run derby odds from bookmaker. As you can see the bookmakers consider Miguel Cabrera the favorite at +230 which is just a tad higher than 2 to 1 odds. David Ortiz checks in as the second choice with odds of +315.
For some it’s one of the most exciting contests of the All-Star experience, for others it’s just plain boring. Some of the league’s best sluggers are set to face off in the 2010 MLB Homerun Derby Monday.
We will get a great look at the MLB’s top prospects in the All-Star futures game Sunday. This can tell us a lot about who to look for in the future and how to adjust our betting strategy once some of these players make their way into the big leagues.
