The Rockies ace may continue his quest to 30 wins this season against a home team that’s struggling at the plate.

Colorado Rockies at Florida Marlins

Colorado avoided being swept in its first series since the All-Star break, with a 1-0 victory over the Cincinnati Reds at the Great American Ball Park.  It was the pitching staff’s 10th shutout of the season, which is strange for a club that had never talled more than eight in a year.  Sunday’s result still didn’t cure the Rockies offensive woes on the road, as the team has the second-worst road average (.231) in the Majors behind only the Toronto Blue Jays.  In fact, the team has failed to score more than three runs in three straight games for just the fourth time this season.  Colorado is 5-1 in its last six games as a road favorite, with the team being a perfect 5-0 in that spot with tonight’s starter on the hill.

The Marlins find themselves in a perfect underdog spot at Dodger Stadium.

Florida Marlins at Los Angeles Dodgers

Florida gets set to play the second game of a seven-game road trip against the Los Angeles Dodgers, picking up a 6-5 victory last night at Dodger Stadium.  The Marlins have won two straight games, after losing seven of their previous nine contests.  Florida currently leads the 2010 series 3-1 versus Los Angeles and has won nine of its last 12 games in Los Angeles.  The team is still just 19-20 following a win this season, but the total is a cash-making 26-12 O/U and 115-83 O/U the last three years.  If tonight’s game goes over the total, expect Marlins shortstop Hanley Ramirez to be a main player.  He is batting .434 in 13 games at Dodger Stadium, which is the highest batting average among all active players (min 50 plate appearances).

Okay, baseball fans, we are just about there—baseball’s midpoint. Actually, the All-Star break comes a bit past the midpoint of the season. Each team has already played over 81 games. It’s been an interesting season (to say the least). Here are a few observations.
