The Arizona State Sun Devils are 3-0 and defeated Texas-San Antonio last week 32-28. Quarterback Manny Wilkins threw 15 of 31 for 264 yards with two TDs and one interception, and he rushed for another 47 yards on nine carries as the Sun Devils amassed 205 rushing yards to complement its 264 passing yards.

Demario Richard rushed for 95 yards on 20 carries, and Kalen Ballage had 62 yards on 14 carries with a TD. Both Cameron Smith and N’Keal Harry had big receiving games with eight catches between them for 166 total yards. Harry also scored one of the two team receiving TDs, the other went to Frederick Gammage who had 57 yards on two catches.

Wilkins is a sophomore who did not see a throw last season. This year he has thrown 63 of 95 (66.3 percent) for 795 yards and an 8.37 yard per attempt average. He has four TDs on the year and two interceptions, and he has been sacked four times.

Wilkins’ Week 1 and 2 performances were both very strong as he threw a combined 48 of 64. He had 351 yards in the 68-55 win over Texas Tech in Week 2, while posting a passer rating of 173.2.

Richard, Ballage and Wilkins have all been good rushing the football. Richard leads the team in total yardage with 282 yards on 71 carries (4.0 yards per), while Ballage has nine rushing TDs through just three games on 37 carries and 255 yards. Wilkins has rushed for 191 yards from the QB position on 33 carries with 191 yards and a TD.

Arizona State has 13 rushing TDs on the season and three passing TDs. Harry has been the star receiver with 181 yards on 15 catches and two of the three TDs. Tim White, Smith and Ballage all have over 100 yards on the season as well, for the Sun Devils who average 12.6 yards per attempt as a team.

California is 2-1 after defeating Texas 50-43 in Week 3. The Golden Bears lost to San Diego State in Week 2, and it defeated Hawaii 51-31 in Week 1. In the win over then-No. 11 Texas, the Bears got a monster game from QB Davis Webb. He threw 27 of 40 for 396 yards and four TDs without throwing any interceptions.

Webb struggled to move the ball on the ground, though, losing 28 yards on five rushing attempts. But Cal had 111 rushing yards to offset its 396 in the air. Vic Enwere rushed for 110 yards on 18 carries and had two of Cal’s three rushing TDs.

Chad Hansen really got it done though. He caught 12 passes for 196 yards and two TDs, including a 38-yard pass play. Jordan Veasy and Melquise Kemyontai Stovall both had 77 and 74 yards, respectively, and both had a TD in the game as well. The Golden Bears needed that upset win to regain momentum after the Week 2 loss, but this will be a tough road game against ASU.

The Sun Devils have the offensive firepower to give Cal’s defense total fits, and this game will hardly be short of scoring as indicated by the ’83’ point total set by college football oddsmakers.
