The Phillies are almost at full strength offensively and face off against a former teammate at Citizens Bank Park this evening.

Houston Astros at Philadelphia Phillies

Houston salvaged the final game of a three-game series in Florida with a 2-1 victory at Sun Life Stadium on Sunday afternoon.  The Astros now move on to Philadelphia where they have a 12-7 all-time record at Citizens Bank Park and a 26-16 overall mark against the Phillies since the start of the 2004 season.  Tonight’s contest is the fourth game of 10-game road trip against the NL East, as the club is 9-14 versus the division this season.  The starting staff has carried the load recently, posting a 2.54 ERA in the last 13 games, with the team compiling a 7-6 record in that span.  Houston is 34-55 against right-handed starters this year (-1,000) and the total is 44-41 O/U in those contests.  It’s also important to note the team is 5-8 as a road underdog of +125 to +150 in 2010 and a dismal 22-36 in this situation the last three years (-580).

The Cubs are hoping to get the offense back on track in the rubber game of the series against NL Central rival Houston.

Chicago Cubs at Houston Astros

Chicago continued to offer little to no run support for starting pitcher Ted Lilly on Tuesday night, as he’s received the lowest run support of any hurler in the Major Leagues.  Coming into last night’s 6-1 loss against the Astros at Minute Maid Park, he had received just 2.43 runs of support per start.  “Lilly’s been a model of consistency,” manager Lou Piniella said.  “He gives you a very reasonable chance of winning a baseball game when he goes out there.”  The Cubs had averaged 5.93 runs per game in their last 14 contests before being shutout in the second game of this series and the club’s .300 average since July 9, was by far the highest in the National League over that span.  Chicago is 24-27 in day games this season (-1,100) and the total is 23-25 O/U in those contests.

The Astros are the best home underdog betting opportunity on Tuesday’s MLB card.

Chicago Cubs at Houston Astros

Chicago moved its record to 7-4 since the All-Star break after picking up a 5-2 win over the Houston Astros at Minute Maid Park.  “With this offense we have and the pitching staff we have, we can do some damage,” last night’s starting pitcher Carlos Silva said.  Monday’s game was the first of a six-game, seven day road trip, as the club looks to win consecutive series against its own division for the first time since winning seven-straight series last season from July 24-September 13.  The Cubs are 4-6 against the Astros this season despite outscoring by four runs, 51-47, in those contests.  Chicago has dropped three games to Houston by a single run and another by two runs this season.  Against divisional opponents, the team is 19-28 (-2,050) and the total being 19-24 O/U in those meetings.

Houston Astros SP Roy Oswalt has absolutely dominated the Reds in his career, as he looks to become the franchise’s all-time leader in wins.

Cincinnati Reds at Houston Astros

Cincinnati is set to play the second game of this three-game series, which happens to be in the middle of playing 15 of 18 games versus NL Central opponents.  The Reds are in second place in the division for the sixth straight day after spending the previous 18 days on top of the standings.  “We’re trying not to scoreboard-watch too much, but it’s obvious that we do,” outfielder Jay Bruce said.  Cincinnati stands at 38-27 in night games this season (+1,130) with the total being 38-24 O/U in those contests.  The club also finds itself in an advantageous position, going 9-3 as a road underdog of +100 to +125 this year (+750), which is consistent to the 36-29 mark its posted over the last three seasons.

The three-game series is up for grabs, as both teams look to dig themselves out of a large hole in the NL Central race.

Houston Astros at Chicago Cubs

Houston is set to play its final game of a six-game road trip against the Chicago Cubs and Pittsburgh Pirates, with the team posting a 12-5 combined mark against those two opponents this season.  The Astros are 14-11 versus NL clubs since June 7, winning four of seven series over that span.  Unlike today’s opponent, Houston has had success against the division, tallying a 21-17 record (+1,060).  The club is 13-18 in day games this season (+10) and 60-63 over the last three years, with the team averaging 3.5 runs and combining for a dismal .229 average under the sun.  Houston has thrived in playing during the middle of the week, tallying an 11-3 mark when playing on Wednesday (+1,020).

The NL West-leading Padres are in for a dog fight on Thursday night.

Houston Astros at San Diego Padres

Houston left Milwaukee with a 5-1 victory on Wednesday afternoon, securing the team’s first month this season in which it didn’t finish at least six games under .500.  The Astros also moved its winning streak to nine straight on Wednesday’s this season.  “It seems like we’re playing better baseball,” reliever Brandon Lyon said after the game.  Houston crossed over the magic four-run barrier against the Brewers, moving its record to 27-11 when scoring four or more runs, which might be tough to do against the league’s best pitching staff coming up.  The Astros are 21-39 against right-handed starters (-940), with the team facing southpaws just 18 times (9-9).

Don’t expect a low-scoring contest in this battle between NL Central foes.

Houston Astros at Milwaukee Brewers

Houston fell 7-5 in the middle game of a three-game series against the Milwaukee Brewers at Miller Park.  The Astros came into the contest winners of four of their last six games, but now find themselves needing a victory to salvage an even record in June (13-14, +450).  Tuesday’s starting pitcher Brett Myers fell to 1-6 on the road, but carries a 4-0 record at home.  The right-hander came into the contest with a 4-1 mark and 1.94 ERA in nine previous appearances against the Brew Crew.  The Astros can definitely look forward to the calendar turning to Wednesday, as the team has captured eight straight games.  They are 9-3 overall on the day of the week, which is their best record of any day (+790).
