Participants/Overview: When the 2008 Missouri Valley Tournament tips off some of the leading basketball play will be on display. For those of you have been reading our site or are signed up with us for our winning college basketball spread picks, you know we absolutely love this conference and know it pretty much inside and out.
The most astonishing story of the league is Drake and you can pencil the Bulldogs into the dance even if they were to slipup in the first round of the MVC tournament. A well coached senior laden team that runs tricky offensive sets and presses the hell out of you, is going to be a bad matchup for some major conference school in the 2nd round of the 08 mens basketball tournament.
Illinois State has done enough to this point to snag an at-large bid on selection sunday, but would need a good showing in the 2008 Valley tournament to hold onto that spot. The team that could snake that bid away from the Redbirds is Southern Illinois. If the seeding holds to form they are on a collision course to meet in the semifinals in which the loser appears to be NIT bound.
It doesn't matter that all 3 teams deserve to gain entry, because the teams are from a mid major conference. Typically the tournament committee likes to screw teams from the Missouri Valley conference. Although it was 2 years ago, we will still never let this article go away. If you haven't already I would advise reading how Missouri State got screwed by the selection committee. Lets hope both SIU and ISU finish strong and the selection panel makes things right by sending 3 teams to the dance.
Interesting note about this tournament that spells bad news for Drake. The Missouri Valley regular season champion hasn't won the conference tournament since 1998.
