Coach K: That's not right
Coach K is a class act but what he did the other night begs me to ask the question why he would send five guys out there to get trampled on and send his starters to the locker room? I don’t buy this at all. I think it was classy to have all the starters shake Florida State’s players and coaches hands before leaving but I think it was the wrong thing to do. Let bench players get trampled on but not starters? That’s not how a team operates. I would understand if he pulled his starters out of the game, but don’t let them leave before the game is over. A team lives and dies together. I think it would have been acceptable to take them out of the game but letting them leave the floor which splits your “team” in half is just not right.

If I were called on to go out there, I would feel pretty darn worthless to Duke Basketball and to Coach K. I would feel like I was being thrown to the wolves to protect the safety of the five best players on the team, while they were safe and sound in the locker room. Going on the road is like fighting in the jungle and everyone should have to experience the elements as one. Coach K in my opinion just flat out broke the concept of “team” with that decision.
Yes, Florida State needed more security and it is their job to protect the Duke players, as well as their own. So they are at fault as well. I am all for the celebration, but it has to be done in the right way. I think Coach K mishandled the situation and I think Florida State security was pathetic. They absolutely didn’t handle their responsibility as the home team. I guess it’s true: two wrongs don’t make a right.
