Cardinals vs. 49ers NFL Preview
The San Francisco 49ers have won five games in a row

San Francisco has won five games in a row, including a 34-24 victory over the Atlanta Falcons as 14-point home favorites on Monday Night Football, while going OVER the betting total for a second consecutive contest.  The 49ers enter Week 17 as the only team in the NFL to not allow a 100-yard rusher, which is important to consider when making your pro football picks, as the rush defense ranks fifth in the league in giving up 96.8 yards per game.  San Francisco is 9-3 SU and 6-6 ATS in December the last two-plus seasons.

The 49ers tied the Kansas City Chiefs with a league-high eight Pro Bowl selections, which can’t be ignored when looking over the pro football odds page.  San Francisco is at its best when running back Frank Gore gets going, but he’ll be going against a stop unit that paces the NFL in allowing just 84.5 yards per game.  He needs just 47 rushing yards to reach 10,000 for his career.  Quarterback Colin Kaepernick will likely target wide receiver Michael Crabtree, who has 27 catches for 427 receiving yards in four previous games in this NFC West rivalry.

Arizona has won and covered the number in its last three games, including a 17-10 upset victory over the Seattle Seahawks as eight-point road underdogs in Week 16, while going UNDER the betting total for the third time in four contests.  The Cardinals have really come alive after the defense took hold of a new system, as they allowed an average of 27.3 points in their first three games this season, but 17.4 per contest since.  Arizona is 7-5 SU and 6-6 ATS off two or more consecutive wins since the 2011 campaign.

The Cardinals will certainly be challenged in this matchup, as they suffered a 32-20 defeat to the 49ers as 10-point road underdogs on Oct. 13, while going OVER the betting total of 40.5.  Arizona allowed Gore to top the century mark on the ground—the only running back to accomplish that feat against the stop unit.

Sports bettors will likely play the total, as the OVER is 6-2 in the Cardinals’ last eight home games versus a team with a winning road record.
