The Carolina Panthers are 4-6 ATS as a home underdog since 2010

Denver hits the road for the fourth time in five games, as it comes off a 31-23 victory over the Cincinnati Bengals as five-point road favorites, while going OVER the total for the third time in four contests.  “It’s all about these next eight games,” commented Broncos tight end Jacob Tamme.  The Broncos have certainly been challenged defensively in the first half of the 2012 campaign, considering that all of their opponents featured a former Pro Bowler under center.  Denver is 2-0 ATS on the road when the total is between 45.5 and 49 this season.

The Broncos have been led offensively by quarterback Peyton Manning, who has thrown for 300-plus yards in five of his last six games.  The former Indianapolis Colts star leads the NFL with a 69.5 completion percentage and a 108.6 quarterback rating.  John Fox should have his locker room motivated for this non-conference affair, considering he’s the winningest coach in Carolina history.  Since his departure, the Panthers have won just eight of 24 games.

Carolina showed some fight in snapping a five-game losing streak, picking up a 21-13 victory over the Washington Redskins as three-point road underdogs, while going UNDER the total for the third time in four contests.  The Panthers have lost two of three meetings in this series, but came away with a 30-10 win as seven-point home favorites on Dec. 14, 2008.  Carolina is 4-6 ATS as a home underdog the last two-plus seasons, with the OVER going 6-4 in that situation.

The Panthers are hoping that signal-caller Cam Newton can build off last week’s performance, as he completed 13 of 23 passes for 201 yards.  Carolina has gone 7-1 during the course of Newton’s career when he doesn’t turn the ball over, while losing 15 of 16 games when having at least one.  Wide receiver Steve Smith will need to win the battle in matching up with Denver cornerback Champ Bailey, as he leads the team in receptions and receiving yards.

Sports bettors will likely back the Broncos due to their 3-0 ATS mark as a favorite of 3.5 to 9.5 points, while the Panthers are 1-4 ATS at home when the total is between 45.5 and 49.
