NBA – Can There be a Pattern After Two Games?

Usually to have some sort of pattern you need a sequence of at least three. But after two games in each of the NBA’s conference final match-ups, there look to be some patterns emerging.Detroit has won the first two. San Antonio has won the first two.

Home teams both.

Detroit has won by 3 points both times—79 to 76. That’s right—both games had the same score and identical outcomes.

San Antonio has won by eight and nine points respectively—scoring 108 and 105 points.

Detroit versus Cleveland—a low-scoring defensive contest. Zydrunas Ilgauskas had only 3 points in game two and offered little defense. Those two facts equal the game. James had 10 points in game one and 19 in game two, which was well below his average of 27 PPG.

Wallace, Webber, Hamilton and Billups are all quite consistent on both offense and defense.

San Antonio versus Utah—a run and gun game. San Antonio has been hammering this opponent with threes by having Tony Parker drive inside and then throw it out to Bret Barry who went three for six the other night.

The next Western Conference game has the Spurs visiting the Jazz on Saturday at 8:30 pm.

The next Eastern Conference games sees the Pistons visiting the Cavaliers on Sunday at 8:30.

Patterns that may emerge—

Home teams continue to win, leaving both series even.

Defense stifles Cavs and offense stifles the Jazz.

No one will win by more than 9 points.

Spurs will score 100 or more, while the Pistons will score less than 100.

Pistons and Spurs meet in the finals.

Those are the trends. Ask me again after the weekend.
