Line From Bookmaker: Georgia Tech -2
The #19 University of Las Vegas Rebels (28- 6, 12- 4 MWC) managed to beat #23 BYU in their tournament, securing a Big Dance berth. The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets (22- 10, 8- 8 ACC) finished seventh in their conference but beat nationally ranked UNC, Clemson and Duke during the regular season.
The Rebels offer four starting seniors and a deep bench, which
is capable of putting a lot of points on the board. The team
has a nicely balanced attack that includes sophomore guard Jo’Van
Adams (14.3 PPG, 3.8 RPG, 2.4 APG) and senior guard Wendell
White (14.2 PPG, 6.2 RPG, 1.2 APG). Point guard Kevin Kruger
(13.6 PPG, 2.5 RPG, 5.0 APG) with his keen eye and sure hands
makes this offense run smoothly. Senior forward Gaston Essengue
(7.6 PPG, 4.9 RPG, 0.4 APG) is a sound presence on the boards.
Georgia Tech’s defense is good and will need to be in order to advance. The primary, go-to guy on this club is freshman guard Javaris Crittenton (14.6 PPG, 3.7 RPG, 5.7 APG). In his first season, Crittneton has proven to be a ball control and set-up specialist with a sweet shot. Freshman forward Thaddeus Young (14.6 PPG, 4.9 RPG, 2.1 APG) has been instrumental upfront, while junior forward Jeremis Smith (8.5 PPG, 5.8 RPG, 1.6 APG) leads the team in rebounds.
George Tech is a young team without much depth. The excellent UNLV defense may make it a long day for Tech’s offense.
