The Georgetown Hoyas (26- 6, 13- 3 Big East) topped their conference and ended the season ranked eighth nationally. In the conference championship game, they hammered Pittsburgh 65- 42. The Belmont Bruins (23- 9, 14- 4 A-Sun) were second in their conference and beat regular season A-Sun champs East Tennessee State 94- 67, taking the conference tournament.
Georgetown has to set up their offense at half court in order
to effectively run their inside-out game. Junior forward Jeff
Green (14.3 PPG, 6.1 RPG, 3.3 APG) and junior center Roy Hibbert
(12.7 PPG, 6.3 RPG) are dominant inside, while guard Jonathan
Wallace (11.1 PPG, 2.8 RPG, 3.0 APG) hits threes at 48%. Hibbert
is the clubs’ best shot blocker.
The Bruins will look to their two primary guards, junior Justin Hare (14.4 PPG, 2.8 RPG, 2.5 APG) and sophomore Andy Wicke (9.5 PPG, 1.9 RPG, 2.8 APG) to set up plays and to hit from downtown. Center Boomer Herndon and his 6-foot, 10-inch frame (10.9 PPG, 5.4 RPG) offer balance inside. Senior center Andrew Preston (8.5 PPG, 4.9 RPG), also 6-foot, 10-inches, provides valuable inside points and rebounds.
Belmont needs to defend constantly, pressuring the Hoyas and frustrating them. Take Georgetown out of their ability to set-up their game and the Bruins will have a chance to win. Stop Belmont’s three-point game and Georgetown wins. Belmont has experience in big games against big teams and won’t be intimidated.
