2006 Oakland Raiders NFL Mock Draft Picks

Team Needs

Offensive Guard: Ron Stone is getting up there in age (35 in July) and Brad Badger had a poor season in 05. Another option Langston Walker is coming off of season ending surgery. Picking up some younger players in the middle rounds is important.

Outside Linebacker: Oakland resigned unrestricted free agent Grant Irons in the offseason and although Irons is not elite, he very well could thrive as a defensive end. Either way an upgrade for Irons is needed. Tyler Brayton did a poor job on the weak side position when called upon and Sam Williams is coming off season ending knee surgery.

Running Back: Lamont Jordan did a decent job coming over in 2005, but Jordan was always banged up and only averaged 3.7 ypc for the season. The other back on the roster Justin Vargas is not the answer either.

Summary

All the projections out there have the Raiders selecting Texas quarterback Vince Young with the 7th pick in the first round. Oakland would be much better suited trying to move up 2 spots to number 5 to try and snag Ohio State's AJ Hawk or moving down and accumulating an additional pick or two so they can fill the many holes from this 4-12 club.

In addition to the three team needs we pointed out above, you can throw defensive tackle into the mix. Oakland released Ted Washington who was picked up by the Browns, and in hindsight probably a good move as Washington was up there in age, but with Warren Sapp not the same player he was years ago and backups Terdell Sands and Tommy Kelly not starter material, Oakland needs a play maker to boost this woeful defense up.

With that being said, Al Davis likes offense and will probably draft Vince Young and let the Raiders defense suffer once again in 06.
