2006 New York Jets NFL Mock Draft Picks

Team Needs

Running Back: Curtis Martin is running on fumes. Coming off of a knee injury Martin turns 33 this summer. If the Jets expect Martin to be a quality back in the second half of the season, limiting his carries in the first part of the season will be essential. Drafting his err apparent and a good backup who can play this season is the smart move.

Quarterback: Chad Pennington is never healthy and his latest shoulder injury is cause for concern. Testerverte is old, and Bolinger is not the answer.

Offensive Tackle: Jason Fabini was a cap casualty and a replacement is needed. Probably a good move as Fabini was coming off of season ending surgery.

Summary

The good news about a 4-12 season is a high draft pick the following season. The bad news is your team is pretty bad and has a lot of issues to solve in the nfl draft. The Jets would be best served trading down the 4th pick of the draft and getting some extra picks as this teams has a lot of holes to fill.

If they don't decide to wheel and deal they will be able to get a stud running back, quarterback, or tackle. It all depends on how the three teams ahead of the Jets draft as to the position. In the unlikely position that Reggie Bush isn't drafted the Jets could solve their running back issue. If Matt Lienart is still around they could grab their future QB and a guy to push Pennington. More likely scenario is Bush and Lienart are both gone and they can grab the best offensive tackle in the draft D'Brickashaw Feguson out of the University of Virginia.

It would also be in New York's best interest to draft a cornerback (since the departure of Ty Law) and an outside linebacker that can rush the quarterback to fit in with their new 3-4 scheme. Time will tell as to what the Jets will do as the draft unfolds the first 3 picks.
