Team Needs

Center: The Saints lost LeCharles Bentley to the Cleveland Browns in the offseason. Bentley will be a big loss as he was able to play both guard and center. Backup Kevin Houser is not a great option to replace one of the leagues best centers in Bentley.

Tight End: New Orleans picked up Mark Cambell from the Bills in the spring, but Cambell is more of a number 2 than starter. Lamont Hall and Zachary Hilton both remained unsigned and Ernie Conwell and Boo Williams are both injury prone.

Defensive End: New Orleans lost defensive end Darren Howard to Philadelphia via free agency. Charles Grant and Will Smith are pretty good options but with a guy like Mario Williams sitting there at number 2, it would be awfully hard to pass up.

Summary

New Orleans had a major shake up in the quarter position as they let long time Aaron Brooks go to the Oakland Raiders and signed free agent Drew Brees to a six year deal. A big reason for Brees' success with the Chargers was stud tight end Antonio Gates. The Saints have no real #1 tight end and not grabbing a good one could have a huge impact on the Saints offensive production in 2006. This years draft is filled with quality tight ends so getting a good one won't be difficult.

Losing center LeCharles Bentley hurts as he was one of the best centers in the league and unless they go after another free agent like Carolina's Jeff Mitchell or Buffalo's Trey Teague drafting a center in one of the rounds is essential.

In all likely hood the Saints will probably use the second pick on NC State's defensive end Mario Williams although trading down to get added picks might be a better move since this team could use help in a lot of areas as well as not having a third round pick in the 2006 draft.
