2006 Carolina Panthers NFL Mock Draft Picks
Running Back: Carolina signed Deshaun Foster to a 3 year deal in the off season, but he, and Eric Shelton are all coming off major injuries. They also had to cut Stephen Davis because of the salary cap and although Nick Goings did a solid job in the playoffs but he is not a long term option for the Panthers offense.
Linebacker: The Panthers lost Will Witherspoon to the Saint Louis Rams and had to cut Brandon Short in a salary cap moves. With these 2 losses, big holes in the line backing core from a defense that has now lost 5 starters from last years club.
Quarterback: Delhomme is solid but backup Chris Weinke has only played in 3 games the last 3 years and even though they resigned him a much better option is available via the draft.
Carolina settled their need to get a complimentary wide receiver to Steve Smith when they signed former Cowboy Keyshawn Johnson to a 4 year deal on March 24th.
They also resigned Foster to help the running game, but he is not durable and they will look for a quality backup via the draft. Look for the Panthers to spend a second round pick on either a running back or linebacker if they don't use the early pick on UCLA's Marcedes Lewis.
