2006 Atlanta Falcons NFL Mock Draft Picks

Team Needs

Safety: All five of Atlanta's safety's are up for free agency. The Falcons secondary was one of the worst in the league in 2005, missing tackle after tackle, and other team's exploited their soft run defense the second half of the season. Look for them to use the 15th pick in the draft on a solid safety.

Defensive End: Getting back to the poor run defense adding a solid defense end will help in improving this concern. Brady Smith missed 11 games last year and with him getting up there in age (32), adding depth to the defensive line is a priority.

Cornerback: No doubt DeAngelo Hall is a shut down corner and is quickly becoming a star and one of the best corners in the NFL, but his counterparts namely Jason Webster has been hampered with injuries and Allan Rossum belongs strictly on special teams.

Summary

The Atlanta Falcons most important focus in the 2006 draft should be the Safety position. Atlanta would love for Texas' Michael Huff to still be there at 15, but he will likely be gone. Look for the Falcons to draft either Darnell Bing from USC or South Carolina's Ko Simpson as they are likely draft candidates to fill the void.

The run defense was terrible in 2005 and with a solid draft of defensive guys Atlanta could be a superbowl contender. Look for the Falcons to focus on the defense with guys like Jimmy Williams from Virginia Tech or Defensive End Tamba Hall from Penn State if they elect not to select a safety with their first pick.
