Connecticut Huskies: Not looking so hot
I said earlier in the year that I felt the 2006 UCONN Huskies Mens Team was the best team in College Basketball. I am sticking by that statement, yet one must consider the fact that the 2006 UCONN Huskies simply have not looked that impressive of late. They had to sneak by a very average Kentucky team on Sunday, registering an 87-83 win. They also did not look all that great against their opening round opponent, Albany but they did manage to win by 13.
As we have said before, teams that stagger into this tournament usually don't win it so one must be weary of these Huskies. They lost their Big East Conference Tournament opener to Syracuse and before that only managed a four point victory at home to NIT bound Louisville.
Now they must face a solid Washington team who is coming off a come from behind win against Illinois. The Huskies have been hitting the three ball their last 5 games at a 40.0% clip. If Connecticut does not find an answer for Washington's leading scorer, Brandon Roy, the Huskies could find themselves in another close, tight knit ball game. Their big men must find a way to connect at the free throw line if this team wants to win it all, or it could cost them late in the game. However, I think their tough defense and size inside should be enough to get them to the Elite 8. But the fact reamins that this team is not playing like a Championship caliber team right now.
