Coach: Terry Hoeppner (2nd year at Indiana)
Team Name: Hoosiers
2005 Overall Record: 4-7
2005 Big 10 Conference Record 1-7
Returning Starters: 14

This team has seen 11 consecutive losing seasons and they’re hoping not to make it a dozen. They may be able to eek out 6 wins, especially because the Hoosiers have a fantastic quarterback-receiver combo in Blake Powers and James Hardy.

Powers, who returns as the team’s leading passer and rusher, threw 22 TDs in 2005, while Hardy, an athletic player, caught 10 TDs and 63 receptions total. Powers must cut down on his 16 interceptions and at the same time his offensive line has to start coming through. Who will be the team’s prominent rusher? That like much of the team is a work-in-progress.

On defense, the Hoosiers could not stop the run, allowing more than 200 yards per game. They were near the bottom in forced turnovers and allowed an average of 10.2 more points per game than they scored.

The best part of the group is the secondary, led by junior corner Tracy Porter (3 INTS). They have experience, speed and talent. Free safety Will Meyers led the team in tackles with 84. A statistic like that never bodes well for the front line or linebackers. The rest of the “D,” all seven, is anyone’s guess.

Five victories are a possibility if they can beat both Connecticut and Illinois. But until the Hoosiers can rush the passer and stop opponents from connecting and scoring, Indiana will continue its losing ways.
