5Dimes has the Lakers as the favorite to win the series and that only makes sense. The Finals have essentially been reduced to a best-of-three series, and the Lakers close it out with two straight home games.

The Mets are on the verge of doing something for possibly the first time in franchise history.
New York Mets at Baltimore Orioles
New York’s pitching staff dominated Baltimore hitters for a second consecutive night, picking up a 3-1 victory on Saturday night and capturing its first road series win of the season. The Mets lead the majors with a 2.31 ERA in June, leading the team to an 8-2 record during the month (+540). The offense is hoping to get a contribution from OF Jason Bay in the series finale, as he’s suffering from a 0-for-16 slump. It’s hard to imagine that he breaks out this afternoon due to his .152 average (5-for-33) in his last nine games at Camden Yards. The Mets are 4-1 in interleague play this year (+380) and 109-107 overall against the American League since 1997.

You could say that Stephen Strasburg had the best major league debut of any pitcher in the history of the MLB. There were only two pitchers, J.R. Richards (in 1971) and Karl Spooner (in 1954), who recorded more strikeouts in their debut than Strasburg did Tuesday. Strasburg had 14, Richards and Spooner 15 each.
When you are handicapping baseball one of the easiest traps to fall into is the curse of the big name pitcher. Sometimes guys who have built a reputation up over years of excellence just aren’t performing at a level that matches that reputation. If you bet on them based on what they were or can be and not what they currently are then you’re just throwing away your money. There’s no value in the bets and there’s a much better chance than you expect that you are going to lose. Here’s a look at five guys with big reputations who haven’t been doing bettors any favors this season:

Two teams going in opposite directions meet at historic Fenway Park for a three-game interleague set.
Philadelphia Phillies at Boston Red Sox
Philadelphia was shutout for the seventh time this season and now head to face one of the hottest teams in baseball. The Phillies are on pace for 20 shutouts, which would be the most since being blanked 22 times in 1969. Even with its offensive troubles of the past few weeks, Philadelphia is the only team in baseball to have four different players with 10 home runs this season. The club is currently 3-5 this month (-380), after going 11-15 during the 2009 season in June. Don’t expect things to drastically turn around for the Phillies during interleague play, as they’ve gone 17-30 the past three years (-1,690)

The Windy City is still celebrating a Stanley Cup victory, but the focus shifts to Wrigley Field and the return of interleague play.
Chicago White Sox at Chicago Cubs
The Chicago White Sox broke through and won back-to-back games against the Tigers, after going 4-20 this season in games following a victory. The lineup has also homered in 13 of its last 14 games and rank third in the American League with 70. The buzz for this series is tempered compared to previous season, mainly due to the poor performance of both teams and the city celebrating a Stanley Cup victory. Manager Ozzie Guillen summed it up in a direct way by saying, “Very bad teams and the Blackhawks.” The White Sox are 2-1 in interleague play thus far in 2010 (+100) and have gone 26-13 over the last three years (+1,320)

Two of MLB’s best daytime clubs faceoff on Thursday afternoon at the Oakland Coliseum.
Los Angeles Angels at Oakland Athletics
Los Angeles started a new winning streak on Wednesday night, picking up a 7-1 road victory over the Oakland Athletics. Since May 14th, the Angels lead the American League with an 18-8 record, winning nine of the last 11 contests. Tonight the Angels play the 11th game (8-2) of a season-long 14-game, 14-day road trip to Kansas City (3-1), Seattle (3-0), Oakland (2-1) and Los Angeles. Through the first nine games of the trip, the Halos have outscored opponents by a 61-33 margin. The team moved its record to 7-2 to open the month (+480) and is a dominating 57-29 in June since the 2007 season. In the Angels five victories over Oakland this season, they have outscored the Athletics 35-9.

Kevin Garnett had a vintage “KG” game, but the rest of the Celtics let him down and didn’t give him the victory. Derek Fisher had a vintage “Money” game, and it was enough to beat Boston.
On a night of hard-fought yet sloppy basketball, the Lakers went up 2-1 in the finals and gained back home-court advantage.
When it comes to betting baseball, not all games are created equally. You can essentially break the season into three broad types of games that teams play – division games, games outside the division but in the league, and inter-league games. Each type of game has different characteristics which the successful bettor will recognize and look to exploit. Today I want to look at division games – why they are unique, and how to deal with them.
The Cubs send a former ace to the mound in trying to capture Game Two of its current series, after allowing the Brewers to walk-off with the win last night.
