FIBA Semifinals Betting Preview: Predictions & Odds For 2 Games

Team USA are currently 15 point favorites while Turkey is favored by 6
USA (7-0)  vs Lithuania  (7-0) – WOW.  Though I did say Lithuania was better than the 40/1 odds against them to start this tournament, I cannot say that I anticipated them doing this.  They just clobbered Argentina, who was a favorite to win this tournament in the eyes of many, and Linas Kleiza is the sole reason why.  He showed years ago in Denver that he has the ability to shoot lights out and sometimes take over games coming off the bench, but in this FIBA tournament he has shined as a starter.  Through 7 games he is averaging 19 ppg and also leading the Lithuanians in rebounds, as well.  It is always strange how seemingly average NBA players take over these tournaments, and Linas has just been one of many to do it.

The Pittsburgh Steelers begin the 2010 regular season at home on Sunday against the Atlanta Falcons without quarterback Ben Roethlisberger due to a four-game suspension for breaking the NFL’s personal conduct policy.  Second-year player Dennis Dixon will start in Roethlisberger’s place for the Steelers, who have not been home underdogs in the regular season since 2004.

The Houston Cougars look for revenge Friday night when they host the UTEP Miners. The Miners shocked the Cougars last season 58-41, behind Donald Buckram’s 262 rushing yards and 4 touchdowns. Buckram was held out of last week’s game against Arkansas-Pine Bluff to rest his bruised knee, but he’s ready to run in this one.

Friday MLB Preview: Giants at Padres

The Padres dropped the first game of this crucial four-game set and will now look to hold onto their divisional lead at Petco Park.

San Francisco Giants at San Diego Padres

San Francisco moved within a game of the San Diego Padres after a 7-3 win in Thursday’s opener at Petco Park.  The Giants have a 3-9 record against the Padres this season, including a 2-4 mark at tonight’s venue.  “We’ve had some bad times against these guys, so winning the first one is big for us,” said last night’s starter Matt Cain.  Offensively, the team blasted four home runs in the spacious park, marking the first time in 61 games that San Francisco accomplished that feat.  With their seventh win in nine games, the Giants also moved within a game of Wild Card pacesetter Atlanta.  “They’re all important games…you just don’t want to put ‘do or die’ in any game,” manager Bruce Bochy stated.  The club is now 37-36 on the road this season (+300) and the total is 39-33 O/U in those contests.
