TCU is the favorite to win the Mountain West Conference
The past two years have been banner years for the Mountain West conference in football. Two years ago Utah finished an undefeated regular season by upsetting Alabama in the Sugar Bowl. Last year TCU narrowly lost to fellow undefeated upstart Boise St in the Fiesta Bowl. In fact it could be argued that last year the Mountain West was stronger than the Big East or perhaps even the ACC.

With Charlie Weis no longer at Notre Dame it’s no longer quite as easy to spot the worst coach in major college football. If there were an award for the dubious distinction of being less of a coach than everyone else who paces the college football sidelines it would be called the Marvin Lewis Trophy in honor of the Cincinnati Bengals’ coach who is unquestionably the worst coach in all of football. With the first college football rankings poll released today what better time to look at some over valued college football teams. The sports media and college football fans spend the whole offseason building hype around a wide range of teams. Some of those teams thrive under the burning glare of the spotlight, while others inevitably wilt under the weight of expectations. It always seems easy in hindsight to look at the teams that don’t live up to their hype and pick out the reasons for their struggles. At this time of year, though, it’s much tougher to spot the ones who are headed to troubles.
