The Giants two-time Cy Young winner takes to the mound, looking to gain more confidence against the worst team in baseball.

Baltimore Orioles at San Francisco Giants

Baltimore grabbed a 4-1 victory in the second game of this three-game series last night, winning for just the third time in their last 19 games.  The Orioles have been outscored 118-45 over that span.  Tuesday’s victory also snapped the team’s nine-game road losing streak, as opponents held a 55-19 advantage in those games.  OF Adam Jones launched a solo home run in leading the Orioles offense, but the team has still hit just 51 home runs on the year, good for 10th in the American League and 51 behind league-leading Toronto.  Baltimore is still the only team in baseball without a home run from its first baseman.  Scoring runs is still difficult for the group, managing to score just 39 runs in their last 17 games and 45 runs in their last 19 games.

Aces are wild in a rematch of last year’s World Series tonight in the Bronx

Philadelphia Phillies at New York Yankees

Philadelphia stumbles into this rematch of the 2009 World Series with a discouraging 8-16 mark since May 17, which is the second-worst record in the National League over that span.  The offense has averaged just 2.5 runs per game over the timeframe, which is actually the worst in baseball.  2B Chase Utley will look to break out of a long slump, managing to produce just a .153 average and no home runs since May 20.  The Phillies have historically had problems during interleague play and its no different this year.  Philadelphia is 2-4 (-310) against the American League this season and 18-32 (-1,790) over the last three years.  The club is also a disappointing 5-9 (-1,020) against left-handed starters, after going 72-50 (+700) versus southpaws the past three years.

The Angels return home after a successful 11-3 road trip and continue interleague play against the visiting Brewers.

Milwaukee Brewers at Los Angeles Angels

Milwaukee continues its 15-game interleague schedule tonight with the first of three games at Los Angeles.  The Brewers are 86-104 all-time during interleague play, including 2-4 this season (-180) and 5-10 last season.  Tonight’s contest is the Brewers’ first game against the Angels since the team took two of three games in Anaheim in 2004.  The club managed to post an even 3-3 record on its recent homestand despite managing just a .125 (6-for-48) batting average with runners in scoring position.  One player that has carried the offense is outfielder Corey Hart, hitting 14 home runs in his last 28 games, tops in the majors over that span.  The Brewers bullpen has been much better of late, posting a 2.96 ERA over its last eight games.

The Cubs look to avoid being swept by their cross-town rivals on national television.

Chicago White Sox at Chicago Cubs

The Chicago White Sox have won four straight games and five of their last six as they continue a nine-game, 10-day road trip.  It’s only helped to have starting pitchers Jake Peavy, Gavin Floyd and Mark Buehrle scheduled to throw in this series, as the three have combined to go 34-15 with a 3.25 ERA in interleague play.  “We’re getting the good pitching and timely hitting,” White Sox outfielder Juan Pierre said following Saturday’s 2-1 victory.  The lineup is filled with hitters that have been Cubs’ killers in the past, including OF Mark Kotsay batting .405 in his last 10 games against the club and OF Alex Rios being a red-hot 11-for-16 with six RBI in his last four.  The team continues its winning ways against the National League, currently having a 4-1 record this year (+340), after going 12-6 in 2009.

The Mets are on the verge of doing something for possibly the first time in franchise history.

New York Mets at Baltimore Orioles

New York’s pitching staff dominated Baltimore hitters for a second consecutive night, picking up a 3-1 victory on Saturday night and capturing its first road series win of the season.  The Mets lead the majors with a 2.31 ERA in June, leading the team to an 8-2 record during the month (+540).  The offense is hoping to get a contribution from OF Jason Bay in the series finale, as he’s suffering from a 0-for-16 slump.  It’s hard to imagine that he breaks out this afternoon due to his .152 average (5-for-33) in his last nine games at Camden Yards.  The Mets are 4-1 in interleague play this year (+380) and 109-107 overall against the American League since 1997.

Two teams going in opposite directions meet at historic Fenway Park for a three-game interleague set.

Philadelphia Phillies at Boston Red Sox

Philadelphia was shutout for the seventh time this season and now head to face one of the hottest teams in baseball.  The Phillies are on pace for 20 shutouts, which would be the most since being blanked 22 times in 1969.  Even with its offensive troubles of the past few weeks, Philadelphia is the only team in baseball to have four different players with 10 home runs this season.  The club is currently 3-5 this month (-380), after going 11-15 during the 2009 season in June.  Don’t expect things to drastically turn around for the Phillies during interleague play, as they’ve gone 17-30 the past three years (-1,690)

The Windy City is still celebrating a Stanley Cup victory, but the focus shifts to Wrigley Field and the return of interleague play.

Chicago White Sox at Chicago Cubs

The Chicago White Sox broke through and won back-to-back games against the Tigers, after going 4-20 this season in games following a victory.  The lineup has also homered in 13 of its last 14 games and rank third in the American League with 70.  The buzz for this series is tempered compared to previous season, mainly due to the poor performance of both teams and the city celebrating a Stanley Cup victory.  Manager Ozzie Guillen summed it up in a direct way by saying, “Very bad teams and the Blackhawks.”  The White Sox are 2-1 in interleague play thus far in 2010 (+100) and have gone 26-13 over the last three years (+1,320)

Two of MLB’s best daytime clubs faceoff on Thursday afternoon at the Oakland Coliseum.

Los Angeles Angels at Oakland Athletics

Los Angeles started a new winning streak on Wednesday night, picking up a 7-1 road victory over the Oakland Athletics.  Since May 14th, the Angels lead the American League with an 18-8 record, winning nine of the last 11 contests.  Tonight the Angels play the 11th game (8-2) of a season-long 14-game, 14-day road trip to Kansas City (3-1), Seattle (3-0), Oakland (2-1) and Los Angeles.  Through the first nine games of the trip, the Halos have outscored opponents by a 61-33 margin.  The team moved its record to 7-2 to open the month (+480) and is a dominating 57-29 in June since the 2007 season.  In the Angels five victories over Oakland this season, they have outscored the Athletics 35-9.
