The last time the Syracuse Orange (4- 8 overall, 1- 6 Big East) had three losing seasons in a row was 25 years ago. As head coach Greg Robinson (5- 18) starts his third season, he's looking at being the man who brought back the bad old days. He may also be headed to the unemployment line.

The Orange offense was rated 102nd last season, averaging 17.4 PPG. Sophomore Andrew Robinson (20 YDs, 1 TD, 1 INT) will be the club's QB. The good news is he's well suited for the West Coast offense. There are some fine receivers to throw to, including TE Tom Ferron, senior WR Taj Smith and sophomore wide Mike Williams. The running game features junior TB Curtis Brinkley who is capable of gaining 1,000 yards, although problematic knees may stop him. With all this promise, winning more than losing should be easy, except for the doubtful offensive line. That's a major problem on this club.

The Syracuse defense gave up 24.6 PPG in 2006. The "D" line has some fine returning talent, including senior DE Lee Williams, senior DT Tony Jenkins and senior Jameel McClain. Jenkins, who's fast, had 8.5 tackles for a loss last year, while the powerful McClain led the conference with 9.5 sacks. Senior FS Joe Fields (76 tackles, 40 solo, 4 INTs) has developed into a playmaker. Senior SS Dowayne Davis (70 tackles, 40 solo) is an experienced secondary threat. The line-backing and corner units are all brand new.

Syracuse is looking at a four-win season, if the team can win swing games versus Washington, Miami (Ohio) and Connecticut. If they can't do that, expect one win. If the offensive line is magically transformed, the Orange will have a better than expected season. Don't expect that.
