Coach: Steve Kragthorpe (1st year at Louisville)
Team Name: Cardinals
2006 Overall Record: 12-1
Returning Starters: 14

Last year, the Louisville Cardinals (11- 2 overall, 5- 2 Big East) won the Big East title and earned a trip to the Orange Bowl where they beat Wake Forest 24- 13. This year, the Cardinals will be competitive again in both their conference and the nation.

It's tough to beat a team when they're averaging 37.8 PPG, although Rutgers managed to defeat the Cardinals last season. Louisville offers a balanced attack that was rated second in overall yardage last season. With seven returning on offense, including senior QB Brian Brohm (63.6% COMP, 3,049 YDs, 16 TDs, 5 INTs), the Cards will be tough to stop this year too. At back, the team has some fine talent, including George Stripling (81 CAR, 459 YDs, 5.7 AVG, 5 TDs) and Anthony Allen (96 CAR, 406 YDs, 4.2 AVG, 15 TDs). Allen was especially effective around the goal line. The primary feature of the Cardinals' attack is it wide ranging, complex passing game. Senior WR Harry Douglas (70 REC, 1,265 YDs, 18.1 AVG, 6 TDs) leads a deep and talented corps. The line is solid and experienced.

On defense, where the club allowed only 16.3 PPG, the Cardinals are fast and agile. Leading sack-man and tackler, SLB Malik Jackson, returns for his senior year. Jackson had 9 sacks and 57 tackles, with 49 being solo! Talented sophomore Latarrius Thomas is the only returning player from the secondary, while only two are back on the line with sophomore Peanut Whitehead being the speediest and best. There's plenty of rebuilding to do here with only four starters back, but there's talent and smarts in the ranks.

Another title is possible for the Louisville Cardinals. Tough games against Rutgers and West Virginia are scheduled at the end of the season. At the start of the year, the Cards need to watch out for a dangerous Kentucky team.
