Is this the year that the number two nationally ranked UCLA Bruins (15- 2 Pac-10, 26- 3 overall) go all the way? The Bruins have faced 9 nationally ranked opponents and beaten all but one. They lost to the #17 Oregon Ducks 68- 66 on January 4, 2007. That was their first loss of the season with the other two coming to Stanford (75- 68) and West Virginia (70- 65). The Penn Quakers (12- 1 Ivy League, 21- 8 overall) have one more game left in their season, against the last- place Princeton Tigers (2- 11 Ivy League, 11- 16 overall). But that game will have no bearing as the Quakers secured an NCAA bid on March 2, 2007, by beating the second-place Yale Bulldogs (10- 4 Ivy League, 14- 13 overall) 86- 58. Our favorite basketball conferences postseason tournament gets underway today, the MVC tournament championship. In recent years the Missouri Valley Conference has started to achieve some notoriety from the media and general public, but most fans still don’t grasp the brand of basketball the Valley offers. If you are a true basketball fan try to catch a few of these games on TV this week. If you are a purist watching some of the sick offensive sets these teams run, how tough they defend, and the brilliant coaching styles, all are a work of art.

The first 2 games of the tournament will pit the #9 seed Drake Bulldogs against the #8 seeded Evansville Purple Aces. Both are senior laden teams with capabilities of putting a run together in the tournament. The late game sees #10 seed Indiana State Sycamores take on the #6 seed Illinois State Redbirds. Indiana State is a young team that may have ran out of gas, where as the IL State team is playing respectable basketball and relies heavily on juco transfers.

The final tournament we are going to cover today is the Sun Belt basketball championship. The Sun belt basketball tournament features 13 teams and is hosted by the The Cajun Dome in Lafayette, Louisiana, home of the 12 seeded Rajun Cajuns. The first round games will be played at the higher seeded campus sites and on Sunday the second round moves to the Cajun Dome. The Southern Conference basketball tournament tips off today with 3 games. Game 1 will pit # 8 seed Chattanooga vs. #9 seed Wofford slated for a 3:00 eastern time tip-off. The second game of the day will see #7 Western Carolina take on #10 Elon, at 5:30 eastern. The final game of the day will see #6 Georgia Southern versus the 11 seeded The Citadel at approximately 8:00. Davidson, Appalachian State, College of Charleston, UNC Greensboro and Furman will start play on Thursday as they earned byes in the opening round of the 2007 Southern Conference Tournament.due to their regular season records.
