The Gonzaga Bulldogs narrowly avoided a disastrous loss to No. 16 seeded Southern. The Zags won 64-58, behind 21 points from Kelly Olynyk. Olynyk shot 8-of-15 from the floor and 5-of-7 from the stripe, and Kevin Pangos also had a big game, scoring 16 and hitting key threes.

Olynyk averaged 17.6 points and 7.3 rebounds per game in the 2011-12 season, and Kevin Pangos averaged 11.6 per game while shooting 42.3 percent from three-point range. Elias Harris was also a key fixture, averaging 14.6 points and a team-leading 7.5 rebounds per game.

The seven-foot Olynyk had just five double-doubles on the season, but Gonzaga was a perfect 5-0 in those games. In the two Gonzaga losses, Olynyk averaged just 15 points and 7 rebounds per game.

Wichita State has won three of their last four games, including their last a 73-55 victory over Pittsburgh in opening round play. In the 18 point victory, Malcolm Armstead scored 22 points on 6-of-14 shooting and 9-of-9 free throws, and Cleanthony Early scored 21 off the bench in 28 minutes of play.

Early led the Shockers in scoring off the bench, with 13.8 points per game. The Shockers are 12-2 when Early scores at least 15 points. Armstead posted 10.7 points per game, and Carl Hall averaged 12.7 points and 7.1 rebounds per game.
