The North Carolina Tar Heels have generated a lot of offense the last three weeks. With a 27-6 win over East Carolina, they set the tone for the next two weeks, a 66-0 trouncing of Idaho and a big 48-34 victory over Virginia Tech. Now, they’ll take on a Miami Hurricanes squad still reeling from a 41-3 loss to then No. 9 Notre Dame last week.

The ACC showdown should prove crucial to both teams. The Hurricanes have yet to suffer a defeat in ACC play, as winners of all three of their conference games. Last week, against the Fighting Irish, they just couldn’t get the offense going. They managed just 285 total yards and 13 first downs, while giving up 587 yards and 34 first downs. In addition, there were a number of three-and-outs, as they possessed the ball just under 21 minutes for the game.

The game was a huge letdown for Miami, who had just won big games over conference rivals NC State and Georgia Tech. A huge upset over ND would have almost certainly resulted in a national ranking, with Miami having received four votes for the AP poll prior to last week’s game.

Stephen Morris has been one of the best QBs in the ACC this season and accounts for the Hurricanes ranking 18th in the nation in passing yardage with 307.2 per game. Their offense has produced as a result, ranking 55th in the nation with 30.2 points per game. Morris has targets-a-plenty. Seven Hurricanes WRs have at least 100 yards on the year, and Phillip Dorsett, his primary target, has 470 yards on 29 receptions, with three touchdowns.

Morris will be tested by a tough Tar Heels defense which ranks 27th in the nation giving up 17.8 points per game. The Tar Heels defense hasn’t been that good against the better opponents though. They gave up 28 points to Wake Forest, 39 to Louisville, and 48 to Virginia Tech, so if Morris can get his receivers going, the Hurricanes have a legitimate shot at another upset victory, though college football oddsmakers set the line 8 points in favor of UNC.

At the time of issue (Noon, Friday), 100 percent of bettors on Bookmaker are picking a Miami money line upset, while 54.4 percent are picking the Tar Heels to cover the spread.
