Chicago White Sox

  • The White Sox are currently 2-3 on their seven-game road trip.  Chicago has also lost six of its last nine games overall.
  • Chicago is 9-1-1 in the last 11 season series against Detroit.
  • Team has compiled a 6-11 record against the AL Central this season.  Chicago went 34-38 against the division in 2009.
  • Lead the American League with 44 stolen bases this season.  OF Juan Pierre leads the Majors with 18 steals.
  • SP Freddy Garcia is 7-1 with a 3.77 ERA in his last nine starts versus the Tigers and 16-6 with a 3.76 ERA lifetime.  His 16 wins against Detroit is tied with Boston’s Tim Wakefield for the most among active pitchers.
  • Garcia is a perfect 7-0 with a 2.77 ERA in his last seven road starts versus Detroit.

 Detroit Tigers

  • Detroit enters today on a two-game winning streak and holds a 14-5 home record.
  • OF Magglio enter today’s game against the White Sox hitting .337 with nine home runs and 42 RBI in 77 games versus the club.
  • Closer Jose Valverde has not allowed a run in his last 17 outings for the Tigers, tossing 16.2 scoreless innings.  He is second among all AL relievers with a 0.51 ERA and a .123 batting average against.
  • Through the club’s first 38 games this season, Tigers relievers have compiled an 11-4 record and a 2.45 ERA.  They lead the American League in ERA and 132 innings pitched.

 Los Angeles Angels

  • Los Angeles is set to play the second game (0-1) of its current seven-game road trip.
  • The Angels are 6-4 against AL West opponents this season, outscoring their opponents 48-40.
  • Pitching staff allowed 39 home runs over the first 30 games of the season, while allowing just five long balls in the last 10 games.
  • Bullpen currently ranks last in the AL with a 5.25 ERA and third-worst in the Majors.  From 2000-09, the bullpen had the best ERA in the AL (3.71) and the second-best in MLB in the decade (LAD – 3.63).
  • SP Jered Weaver produced a career-best 12 strikeouts in his last start, moving him into a first-place tie in the category among AL pitchers (59).
  • Weaver has allowed just one earned run in his last 14.1 innings.  He has held left-handed batters to a .186 batting average this season, compared to a .261 mark in his career.

 Minnesota Twins

  • The Twins beat the Blue Jays, 8-3, on Monday night.  SP Kevin Slowey picked up the victory and 1B Justin Morneau led the offensive charge with two home runs.
  • Minnesota has now tallied a 12-8 record on the road and is currently 6-5 versus the AL East.
  • Morneau has reached base 79 times this year, ahead of Boston 1B Kevin Youkilis (77) for the most in baseball.  He has reached base safely in 33 of 36 games played.
  • Enter play today second in the Major Leagues in walks, behind Atlanta (177).  They have walked 166 times, with Morneau picking up 30 walks.
  • Currently have a 2-2 record on the road trip, with the team batting .268 combined and averaging 4.75 runs per game.  The pitching staff has compiled a 5.56 ERA (5.25 starters/6.30 Bullpen).
  • Team is now a season-high 10 games over .500, one of just four teams in baseball at that mark (TB, NYY, PHI).
  • SP Carl Pavano has walked just seven batters in 46.1 innings of work, which leads the Majors with a minimum of 40 innings.  The right-hander has gone 18-13 with a 4.03 ERA in 44 career starts in the month of May, the most wins of any month.

Seattle Mariners

  • The Mariners are 4-2 on Tuesday’s, their only winning day of the week.  Seattle concludes its third road trip today, with game two of a current series against Oakland.
  •  Team has dropped three straight and five of the last eight games.  The Mariners have also lost 12 of their last 16.
  • OF Ichiro Suzuki leads MLB with 21 multi-hit games.  He is batting .393 over his last 29 games.
  • Starting rotation is tied-third in the American League with 22 quality starts.  Among the Top-5 AL teams in the category, the Mariners rank last with just 11 overall wins.
  • Offense was 2-for-8 with runners in scoring position on Monday, after giong 2-for-21 (.095) in the category during their three-game series against Tampa.  The club is now 9-for-52 (.173) RISP on the road trip.
  • SP Felix Hernandez is 0-3 with a 6.23 ERA over his last four starts, after posting a 2-0 mark and 2.15 ERA in his first four starts of the season.
  • Hernandez is 0-3 with a 5.34 ERA this season when starting a game following a team loss.  He was 15-4 with a 2.49 ERA in that situation in 2009.

Tampa Bay Rays

  • The Rays are off to the best start in club history and have the majors’ best 38-game record over the last five years, since the 2005 White Sox (27-11).
  • Team is currently 3-1 on this brief five-game home stand that concludes with today’s game (2-1 vs.. Sea, 1-0 vs.. Cle).
  • Tampa Bay is 12-5 against left-handers this season, the most wins in the majors.  Only the Padres (7-2, .778) and Twins (9-3, .750) have a higher winning percentage.  The Rays are 7-1 in their last eight games against lefties, with the only lose coming in Dallas Braden’s perfect game.
  • Scored 201 runs, tied with the Blue Jays for the fifth-most in the Majors (NYY-219, PHI-212, BOS-203, MIL-202) and have allowed just 114, the second-fewest in the majors (SD-111).
  • SP David Price has allowed three runs or less in each of his starts this season and in 23 of 31 career starts.  The left-hander is 10-3 lifetime with a 2.68 ERA at home.
  • Price’s overall ERA (2.03) ranks fourth in the AL, while his 1.99 ERA at home ranks seventh.
