Detroit Tigers at Chicago White Sox

Detroit picked up a 3-2 comeback victory on Saturday night over the White Sox at U.S. Cellular Field and giving the team a chance to end a streak of 10 straight road series losses.  The win in the second game of the series was also just the club’s second win in 15 road games.  “I’ve been around this game long enough to know we’ve got to start putting something together,” Brandon Inge said.  The offense is led by 1B Miguel Cabrera in games away from Comerica Park, as he is leading the American League with a .345 road batting average.  The Tigers are now 19-26 against division opponents this season and the total stands at an even 21-21 O/U in those contests.  The club is a dismal 6-16 on the road when the total is 9 to 9.5 in 2010 and 36-58 in this situation over the last three years (-2,100).

The Angels are in a money-spot despite dropping the first three games of their series against the White Sox.

Los Angeles Angels at Chicago White Sox

Los Angeles is suffering from a three-game losing streak and the team is finding it hard to score runs in July.  The Angels are currently 2-5 this month (-430) and have scored two or fewer runs in six of seven games (2-5 O/U).  Manager Mike Scioscia hasn’t been pleased with the team’s approach at the plate saying, “We had some opportunities that could have changed some things that went on.  We had trouble with runners in scoring position.” Los Angeles is now trailing the season series 3-2 and has love five of its last nine at U.S. Cellular Field.  Since 2005, 37 of 52 games between the teams have been decided by three runs or less, including two of three in the current series.

Los Angeles Angels at Chicago White Sox

Los Angeles starts a seven-game road trip tonight leading into the All-Star break, after posting a dominating 11-0 home victory over the Kansas City Royals on ESPN Sunday Night Baseball.  The Angels also made some moves to boost the team’s offense over the weekend, but will play out the week with a shorter pitching staff.  “We’re looking right now to get through the week with 11 pitchers,” manager Mike Scioscia said.  The Halos have won five of their last six road games and are an MLB-best 12-3 in their last 15 road contests.  Overall, the team is an incredible 122-86 on the road the past three years (+4,330).  Los Angeles also brings a 25-12 record into this contest since May 25, which is the best mark in the American League.  The club leads the season series 2-0 over the White Sox, picking up a two-game sweep on May 19-20.

Detroit Tigers at Chicago White Sox

Detroit suffered a 15-3 road loss to the Chicago White Sox last night.  The Tigers will finish off its current six-game road trip (2-3, -158) with the final game of the series this afternoon.  OF Magglio Ordonez is expected back in the lineup on Thursday, after missing a second game due to a sore left oblique.  “He could play,” manager Jim Leyland said about the outfielder on Wednesday night. “The thinking behind it is:  if he plays tonight, then tomorrow’s day game, I doubt that I’d want to play him again.”  Ordonez should jump at the opportunity of playing today, as he tops all major league players with at least 20 plate appearances with a .609 batting average (14-for-23) versus Chicago starting pitcher John Danks.  Detroit is 18-9 in day games this season (+720) and now an even 13-13 against the division (-340).
