The Angels are in a money-spot despite dropping the first three games of their series against the White Sox.

Los Angeles Angels at Chicago White Sox

Los Angeles is suffering from a three-game losing streak and the team is finding it hard to score runs in July.  The Angels are currently 2-5 this month (-430) and have scored two or fewer runs in six of seven games (2-5 O/U).  Manager Mike Scioscia hasn’t been pleased with the team’s approach at the plate saying, “We had some opportunities that could have changed some things that went on.  We had trouble with runners in scoring position.” Los Angeles is now trailing the season series 3-2 and has love five of its last nine at U.S. Cellular Field.  Since 2005, 37 of 52 games between the teams have been decided by three runs or less, including two of three in the current series.

The Windy City has two teams going in opposite directions heading into the series finale.

Chicago Cubs at Chicago White Sox

The Chicago Cubs fell 3-2 to their crosstown rivals on Saturday afternoon, but things remained positive in the clubhouse afterwards.  “Today was a little different,” starting pitcher Carlos Silva said.  “Today I saw a team out there.”  Manager Lou Piniella’s squad held a pregame meeting before the game, allowing the manager and players to move forward following pitcher Carlos Zambrano’s suspension.  Yesterday’s defeat was the 39th game of the season decided by two or fewer runs, including the 28th one-run game (11-17).  Today is the final game of a 15-game stretch against the American League (5-9) with the team’s designated hitter managing to hit just .100 on the road in interleague play.  The Cubs are batting .193 and scoring 1.2 runs per game while dropping four of their last five games.  Despite the downtrodden season, Piniella’s club has only been swept once in a three-game series.

The White Sox look to pick up a series victory, but will have to overcome their 4-20 record after a win this season.

Detroit Tigers at Chicago White Sox

Detroit suffered a 15-3 road loss to the Chicago White Sox last night.  The Tigers will finish off its current six-game road trip (2-3, -158) with the final game of the series this afternoon.  OF Magglio Ordonez is expected back in the lineup on Thursday, after missing a second game due to a sore left oblique.  “He could play,” manager Jim Leyland said about the outfielder on Wednesday night. “The thinking behind it is:  if he plays tonight, then tomorrow’s day game, I doubt that I’d want to play him again.”  Ordonez should jump at the opportunity of playing today, as he tops all major league players with at least 20 plate appearances with a .609 batting average (14-for-23) versus Chicago starting pitcher John Danks.  Detroit is 18-9 in day games this season (+720) and now an even 13-13 against the division (-340).
