The Sprite Slam Dunk competition has continually been one of the highlights of All-Star Weekend. Many have complained that this year’s field is weak, but I don’t think we can actually assess those kinds of things, because every year players surprise us. Moreover, all four of these guys are either rookies or sophomores, so we’re really only just starting to get an idea of what they are capable of.

Arizona is a 9 point favorite against the Duquesne Dukes
The Dukes return an all freshman backcourt from lat year and they finished 4th in the Atlantic-10 Conference. It was their highest conference finish since ’94 and they now have put together their fourth straight 15 win season. Guard TJ McConnell won A-10 Rookie of the year, by scoring 10.8 points per game and dishing out 4.4 assists per game. He did so in 30.6 minutes a game, the highest of all returning players.
