The Oklahoma State Cowboys head out on the road for the first time this year against the Tulsa Golden Hurricane

Oklahoma State hits the road for the first time in 2011 after picking up decisive home wins over Louisiana-Lafayette and Arizona.  The Cowboys have out-gained their first two opponents by a staggering 501 yards.  It could increase that figure due to piling up 722 yards and 65 points in last year’s meeting with Tulsa.  Quarterback Brandon Weeden threw for 409 yards and six touchdowns, as the team scored on its first 10 possessions.  His main target was wide receiver Justin Blackmon, who caught six passes for 174 yards and three touchdowns.  Oklahoma State is 6-0 ATS as a road favorite the last two-plus seasons.

The Cowboys have enjoyed life on the road of late, posting an 11-3 record since the beginning of the 2008 season.  Oklahoma State is looking to start 3-0 for the 20th time in school history and is 24-6 in non-conference games under current head coach Mike Gundy.  Offensively, the numbers are staggering, as the team has scored in every quarter.  It has also led to the squad outscoring opponents by a 55-10 margin in the first half.  The program is enjoying incredible success, posting 31 wins over the last three seasons, which is the most of any three-year period in school history.

Tulsa returns home after playing on the road in consecutive weeks in a loss at No. 1 Oklahoma before picking up a 31-3 win over Tulane.  The Golden Hurricane will be meeting the Cowboys for the 71st time, trailing in the series by a 38-27-5 margin.  Tulsa has dropped the last four meetings, including a 65-28 loss last year.  It’s not out of the realm of possibility that an upset could occur, as the team is 5-0 in its last five home openers and is 58-23 overall in the situation inside H.A. Chapman Stadium.  Tulsa is 7-1 ATS off a win against a conference rival.

The Golden Hurricane have registered a 7-13 home record against ranked opponents, with the last such win coming over No. 24 UTEP in the 2004 season finale.  Quarterback G.J. Kinne receives a lot of praise in Conference USA, but the rest of the country is learning more about the senior.  He has passed for 6,894 career yard and 58 touchdowns, while amassing 7,912 total yards of offense.  The team has won eight of its last nine games, as its seven-game winning streak was snapped in the season opener.  Tulsa outscored opponents by a 45.9 to 30.9 margin in those games.

Bettors will likely back the Golden Hurricane due to their 10-2 ATS mark, while the road team is 1-6 ATS in the series.
