Stanford Football
The Stanford Cardinal blanked the UCLA Bruins 35-0 in last year's meeting at the Rose Bowl

UCLA remains on the road this week and is coming off a 27-19 win over the Oregon State Beavers as 4.5-point underdogs.  The Bruins have failed to cover the number in the last two meetings with Stanford, including a 35-0 blanking at home as 5.5-point underdogs.  Offensively, the team is ranked 28th nationally in rushing offense and will face the top-ranked rush defense nationally.  The last seven times UCLA has captured its first conference game of the season it has gone on to become bowl eligible.  Over the last two-plus seasons, UCLA is 1-7 ATS in Weeks 5 through 9.

The Bruins are 12-0 under current head coach Rick Neuheisel when holding an opponent under 20 points, but that’s not likely to happen against this week’s opponent.  UCLA has defeated four of its last eight top-10 ranked opponents.  Junior tailback Johnathan Franklin leads the rushing game in gaining 303 yards this season.  He led the attack last year with 1,127 yards, which was the 10th-best season in school history.

Stanford enjoyed a bye week after capturing a 37-10 win over Arizona as 9.5-point road favorites.  The Cardinal have won 11 straight games, while also proving victorious in seven straight home games.  The program is 18-2 in its last 20 games inside Stanford Stadium.  Offensively, the team ranks ninth in scoring, averaging 46.0 points a game.  The Cardinal have scored 40 or more points in 12 times in the last 29 games.  Stanford has been incredible balanced in averaging 196 yards on the ground to help quarterback Andrew Luck exploit opponents through the air.  Over the last two-plus seasons, the program is 16-6 ATS as a favorite.

The Cardinal will likely light up the scoreboard in averaging 38.6 points a game over their last 19 home games, while allowing 22.1.  Stanford will be playing without the services of star linebacker Shayne Skov, who was lost for the season with a left knee injury.  Luck has still orchestrated his team to three wins to start the season, outscoring opponents by an incredible 138-27 margin.  He has thrown for 786 yards and eight touchdowns and gained another 52 yards on the ground.  Dating back to the 2000 season, Stanford has tallied a 6-9 record in games following bye weeks.  Last season, the Cardinal defeated Washington State, 38-28 following its bye week.

Bettors will likely back the Cardinal due to their 5-0-1 ATS mark in conference action, while the Bruins are 0-4 ATS in October.
