The Philadelphia Eagles have lost nine straight at home, but NFL oddsmakers at 5dimes favor Philly by 5.5 points over the New York Giants, and a big reason for that is the return of quarterback Michael Vick. Another great thing that Philly has going is that the NFC East is struggling as a division, and even at just 3-4 the Eagles trail first place Dallas by just half a game.

Vick is expected to start in the contest and he said that his hamstring is nearly fully healed and won’t cause any problems with his mobility. Vick said, “I’ve pretty much set my mind to play the way I want to play….giving it everything I got…” That should be enough to alleviate the Eagles struggles since Vick is such a huge part of what they do offensively as a dual-threat QB. He’s done especially well rushing against the Giants, a team he has 20 carries of at least 10-yards. New York is also dead last in sacks, so its pass rush defense is markedly poor.

Combining with Vick’s rushing prowess (307 yards on 33 carries) is LeSean McCoy, who has also rushed for 685 yards on 141 attempts with three TDs on the year. Vick has thrown just 53.8 percent for completion this season, which is slightly below his career average of 56.2 percent, but it’s his ability to run the football that makes Vick the dynamic option he is.

The Giants have the 10th highest pass yardage rank in the NFL behind the strength of Eli Manning, but the backs have been ineffective. No Giant running back rushes for more than 3.7 yards per carry, and the rush offense ranks 31st. Combining the middling offensive prowess with a poor defense has rendered the Giants the 1-6 disaster it is. With Brandon Jacobs expected to miss the game due to hamstring issues, it may be even more difficult to vary the attack.
