The New York Jets lead the NFL in rushing heading into Week 2
The New York Jets lead the NFL in rushing heading into Week 2

New York earned a 19-14 season-opening victory against the Oakland Raiders as 6.5-point home favorites last Sunday, as it won the statistical battle by 244 yards, while going UNDER the betting total of 41.  The Jets are a forgettable 7-17 SU on the road over the previous three seasons, which is important to consider when making your Week 2 NFL picks, especially since they’ve been outscored by an average of 7.5 points in that situation.  New York is 6-14 SU and 9-10-1 ATS as underdogs since 2012, with the UNDER going 10-9 in those 19 opportunities.

The Jets have the league’s top-ranked rushing offense, with the 1-2 punch of Chris Ivory and Chris Johnson leading directly to 212 yards, which can’t be ignored when looking over the Week 2 NFL betting odds.  New York is certainly going to pound the football in this matchup, while it should be able to stop Green Bay’s ground attack on the other side of the football, especially with Eddie Lacy dealing with concussion symptoms.

Green Bay will look to bounce back from a 36-16 defeat to the Seattle Seahawks as 4.5-point road underdogs on Sept. 4, as it lost the statistical battle by 143 yards, while going OVER the betting total of 46.5.  With Aaron Rodgers as the starting quarterback, the Packers are 2-1 against AFC East teams, including a 1-0 mark in this particular series.  All but one of the four contests that these two teams have played at Lambeau Field have been decided by seven or fewer points.  Green Bay is 3-1 SU and 2-2 ATS as home favorites of 7.5 to 10 points over the last two-plus seasons.

The Packers are 6-2 SU in home openers under head coach Mike McCarthy, while Rodgers has produced a 5-1 record in that situation.  Since McCarthy took over in 2006, Green Bay has compiled a 17-11 record in the month of September.  In its last 10 home games against AFC foes, the franchise has scored 30 or more points six times.

Sports bettors will likely back the Jets due to their 4-1 ATS mark in Week 2 the previous five years.
