San Francisco picked up its first win of the 2014 preseason last time out, as it produced a 21-7 victory over the San Diego Chargers as 5.5-point home favorites, while going UNDER the betting total for a third consecutive contest.  The 49ers expect quarterback Colin Kaepernick to see limited action in this affair, which is important to consider when making your NFL betting picks, as head coach Jim Harbaugh would like to see the first-team offense produce its first touchdown of exhibition play.

The 49ers are trying to nail down their No. 3 receiving on their depth chart, as many thought Steve Johnson had that spot nailed down behind starters Anquan Boldin and Michael Crabtree, but he didn’t do much in the third preseason game.  On the other side of the ball, San Francisco is a bit concerned about solidifying the middle of its defense with NaVorro Bowman being out for at least six games, with Michael Wilhoite the favorite to play along side star linebacker Patrick Willis.

Houston has won and covered the number in back-to-back games, as it comes off a 18-17 victory over the Denver Broncos as seven-point road underdogs despite being out-gained by 105 yards in that affair.  The Texans are expected to sit starting quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick, which can’t be ignored when looking over the NFL betting odds, which means that backup Case Keenum will see significant time under center.  He has completed 20-of-35 passes for 184 yards and no touchdowns with an interception thus far.

The Texans are also expected to keep main receivers DeAndre Hopkins and Andre Johnson on the sidelines, which means that Keshawn Martin, Devier Posey and Mike Thomas will be the main offensive threats on the perimeter.  Defensively, , head coach Bill O’Brien will be watching his cornerbacks closely, with A.J. Bouye having his ups and downs, but still playing a lot in Johnathan Joseph’s absence.

Sports bettors will likely back the Texans due to their 2-1 ATS mark in O’Brien’s first round of preseason action on the sidelines.
