Xavier finished the season 27-5 with the second-best conference mark in the Big East. It lost the conference semifinal to Seton Hall 87-83 despite 21 points from Edmond Sumner. The Pirates will take on No. 15 seeded Weber State at 8:20 Central on TNT tonight, and college basketball oddsmakers favor Xavier by 13 points in the game with the over/under set at 147.5.

Sumner is a 6’5” freshman guard who has been huge in his first collegiate season. He posted 11.3 points, 3.5 assists and 3.4 rebounds per game in just 25 minutes a night. Though he had 21 points against Seton Hall, he was just 7 of 23 from the field in the game and that was just seven shots less than he had taken in the previous four games. He has been inconsistent as might be expected, but he is capable of carrying a large offensive load for the Musketeers who average 81 points per game as a team.

The leading scorer for Xavier this season was Trevon Bluiett. A 6’6” sophomore guard he averaged 15.5 points, 6.2 rebounds and 2.3 assists in 30 minutes a night and he has scored in double figures in the last eight games. In fact, Bluiett only had two games with less than 10 this season, showcasing that the Musketeers can rely on him for offense when it needs to. He had a 24 point night against Marquette prior to the loss to Seton Hall. He connected on 9 of 14 from the field in that 90-72 win over Marquette while knocking down 5 of 8 from three-point range. Blueitt is a 39.9 percent three-point shooter this season and he takes nearly six per game. If he gets hot, Xavier could make this 15 vs 2 matchup a total rout.

Myles Davis and James Farr round out Xavier’s double-figure scorers. Farr is a 6’10” senior forward who averaged 10.8 points and 7.8 rebounds while also coming up with 1.8 blocks/steals per game this season. Davis shot 55.2 percent from the field and he can hit free throws when he has to as a 72 percent foul shooter. Davis had 18 points and 10 boards in the loss to Seton Hall, his best game of recent matchups. He is averaging 15 points per game over the past five games and he has knocked down 30 of 49 from the field over that span.

Weber State finished the season 26-8 and won the Big Sky Championship to get its March bid. The Wildcats are led by Jeremy Senglin and Joel Bolomboy, who combine to average 35.4 points per game. Weber State averages 77 per game as a team while shooting 48.4 percent from the field and 37.4 percent from three-point range.

Bolomboy is expected to be taken in the NBA draft and will be looking to solidify his stock in this tournament. The 6’9” senior forward is an absolute monster on the glass and averaged 12.7 rebounds per game this season. He had 17 points and 19 rebounds in the 83-78 OT win over North Dakota in the conference semis and he had 26 points and 11 rebounds in a 79-77 win over East Washington on Mar. 5. Bolomboy shoots 58.1 percent from the field and can step out to knock down the triple too as a 36.5 percent three-point shooter. Between he and Senglin, the Wildcats have a strong 1/2 punch in this game, but Xavier has too much talent in its rotation and Weber State will wear thin as the game progresses.
