Marquette opened up the Steve Wojciechowski era with a resounding 79-63 win over UT Martin as 18.5-point home favorites last week, as the team tries to prove the media wrong after picking the program to finish seventh in the Big East Conference standings before the season.  The Golden Eagles certainly have a tall mountain to climb, which can’t be ignored when looking over the NCAA basketball odds, as they’ll have to replace 71.9 percent of their scoring and 58.6 percent of their rebounding from the 2013-14 campaign.  Over the last two-plus seasons, the team is 7-17 SU and 11-13 ATS as underdogs, with the OVER going 14-10 in that situation.

The Golden Eagles certainly lack experience until their first-year players gain some valuable minutes, but they may be able to lean upon BYU transfer Matt Carlino, who has averaged 12.5 points over the course of his career.  Marquette is 4-6 SU all-time against Ohio State in a series that dates back to 1933-34, as it seeks to avenge a 52-35 setback at the BMO Harris Bradley Center last year.

Ohio State has compiled a dominating 89-8 SU home record since the start of the 2009-10 season, which is important to consider when making your NCAA basketball picks, as that win total is the highest of any team in the country over that span.  The Buckeyes were picked to finish behind the Wisconsin Badgers and Michigan State Spartans in the Big Ten Conference’s preseason poll, but some expect Thad Matta’s crew to surprise people.  Ohio State is 5-0 SU and 3-2 ATS as home favorites of 9.5 to 12 points the last two-plus seasons.

The Buckeyes are double-digit home favorites in this high-profile matchup due to their tremendous success in non-conference play during the Matta era in Columbus, as they’ve captured 50 of their 56 games in the month of November over that span.  Ohio State has also managed to cover the number in seven of its last nine meetings against Big East foes.

Sports bettors will likely back the Buckeyes due to the Golden Eagles being 5-16-1 ATS in their last 22 overall games.
