Monday Quick Hits

The Colts may have got a win to move to 2-0 tonight, but I’m sure not convinced by them yet. They got very lucky to win that one given that they barely had the ball on offense, and they weren’t always impressive when they did. If Miami had any ability at all to manage the clock down the stretch then both of these teams would have been 1-1. I didn’t think that the Colts were going to be elite this year before the season, and I haven’t seen anything yet to make me change my mind.

If Miami can have the ball for 45 minutes and not win the game then they need to look in the mirror and ask themselves some very serious questions.

The Astros fired their manager today withe just 13 games left in the season. There is absolutely no argument you could make that would convince me that that is a worthwhile move. Why not wait to the end of the season so that the new guy can start on a good footing? It’s not like this move changes anything or will magically get them into the playoffs or anything – they need to win 11 of their final 12 just to finish at .500. Bizarre.

Urban Meyer and Lane Kiffin are still going at it a couple of days after their teams played and Florida won. This is just getting embarrassing for both guys – Meyer should be above all of this circus and shouldn’t be acknowledging Kiffin’s existence, and Kiffin surely has more to worry about now than Meyer. They are like a couple of kids fighting over a candy bar.

Am I the only one out there who is finding it incredibly hard to be interested in baseball right now? This stretch drive is a total dud, and it has drained all thefun out of the sport. I’m sure I’ll get back into it once the playoffs start, but for now this is almost completely unwatchable – and I love baseball.
