The Virginia Cavaliers are looking to snap a four-game losing streak in this ACC series
The Virginia Cavaliers are looking to snap a four-game losing streak in this ACC series

North Carolina snapped its four-game losing streak last Saturday, as it come away with a 48-43 victory over the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets as 2.5-point home favorites, while going OVER the betting total for the fourth time in five contests.  The Tar Heels have won four straight games against the Cavaliers, which is important to consider when making your Week 9 college football betting picks, especially with the average margin of victory being 25.0 points over that period of time.  North Carolina is 0-3 SU and 1-2 ATS as underdogs of 3.5 to 10 points the last two-plus seasons, with the UNDER going 3-0 in that situation.

The Tar Heels are hoping that quarterback Marquise Williams can provide another huge performance, which can’t be ignored when looking over the college football betting lines, as he completed 38 of 47 passes for 390 yards and four touchdowns last time out.  North Carolina ranks first in the ACC and 16th in the country in averaging 38.7 points per game—scoring 30 or more in all but one game.

Virginia hasn’t dropped back-to-back games all season, as it looks to bounce back from a 20-13 defeat to the Duke Blue Devils as three-point road underdogs, but it did manage to win the statistical battle for a fifth consecutive affair.  The Cavaliers are 45-42-2 SU all-time in Homecoming games—splitting two such meetings in this rivalry in that situation.  It’s important to point out that this is tied for the third-longest rivalry in FBS history.  Virginia is 7-4 SU and 3-8 ATS as favorites the last two-plus seasons.

The Cavaliers are the only team in the country with three players nationally in the top 45 in sacks over the course of their careers, while they also have a major offensive weapon in running back Kevin Parks, who sits behind just six players with 2,976 yards since arriving in Charlottesville.  Since 1982, Virginia is 15-2-1 SU when committing fewer turnovers than North Carolina.

Sports bettors will likely back the Cavaliers due to the favorite going 4-0 ATS in the last four meetings.
