Purdue has alternated wins and loses over its last five games, as it looks to bounce back from a 45-31 defeat to the Michigan State Spartans as 21-point home underdogs last Saturday, while going OVER the betting total for a second consecutive contest.  The Boilermakers are 32-34-3 SU all-time against the Golden Gophers, which is important to consider when making your Week 8 college football predictions, but they’ve won 11 of the last 15 in the Big Ten Conference rivalry.  Purdue is 0-8 SU and 4-4 ATS as underdogs of 10.5 to 21 points the last two-plus seasons, with the OVER going 4-3-1 in that situation.

The Boilermakers won their only previous game at an opposing team’s stadium this season, as they picked up a 38-27 victory over Illinois as 10-point underdogs on Oct. 4.  Purdue will try to score 31 or more points for the third game in a row for the first time since 2009, which can’t be ignored when looking over the college football betting lines.  Offensively, the team has rushed for 1,149 yards through its first seven games this year, which is much higher than its 805 figure from 2012.

Minnesota has put together a 3-0 SUATS streak, as it looks to build off a 24-17 victory over the Northwestern Wildcats as 3.5-point home favorites last Saturday, while going UNDER the betting total in three of four affairs.  The Golden Gophers were 9-16 after the first two seasons under head coach Jerry Kill, but they’ve managed to capture 13 of their last 19 games during his time on campus.  Minnesota is 5-0 SU and 4-1 ATS as favorites of 10.5 to 21 points the last two-plus seasons, with the OVER going 3-1-1 in those five opportunities.

The Golden Gophers have won seven of Mitch Leidner’s nine starts under center, while he’s managed to rush for 12 touchdowns in 15 career games.  Minnesota relies heavily on running the football offensively, as it has rushed the ball 273 times and passed just 103 times in 2014.

Sports bettors will likely back the Golden Gophers due to the home team covering the number in the last four meetings in this series.
