The Oklahoma State Cowboys haven’t lost back-to-back regular-season games in five years

West Virginia has lost and failed to cover the spread in its last three games, as it comes off a 39-38 overtime loss to the TCU Horned Frogs as four-point home favorites, while going OVER the total for the first time in three weeks.  The Mountaineers have been unable to move the football on the ground, something that quarterback Geno Smith can’t figure out.  “I don’t know,” stated Smith this week.  “We obviously understand we have to run the ball.”  The program has won the ground battle in 68-of-90 games, which has produced a 69-21 record in those contests.  West Virginia is 0-2 ATS off an upset loss as a favorite this season.

The Mountaineers will need Smith to be great down the stretch to pick up wins, considering he’s thrown for 35 touchdown passes in the last nine games.  Since 2000, West Virginia is 8-4 when scoring 40 or more points in a contest, which is certainly possible to reach in this particular matchup.

Oklahoma State begins its final home stand of the 2012 college football season, as it looks to bounce back from a 44-30 loss to the Kansas State Wildcats as seven-point road underdogs, which snapped a three-game win streak.  The Cowboys have not lost two straight regular-season games in five years, which is important to consider due to their 4-1 ATS mark following a straight-up loss.  Oklahoma State is 4-0 ATS as a home favorite this season, while the OVER is 11-4 in that situation the last two-plus years.

The Cowboys are led offensively by running back Joseph Randle, who leads the Big 12 Conference in averaging 116.8 yards per game.  He is averaging 5.34 yards per carry in 2012, while his six 100-yard rushing games lead the conference as well.  Oklahoma State is 27-6 at home since the beginning of the 2008 season, including 10 wins in its last 11 home games.  Offensively, the team is averaging 575.8 yards of offense per game, which would break the school record of 545.8.

Sports bettors will likely back the Cowboys due to their 13-6 ATS record in conference games, while the Mountaineers are 1-6 ATS versus winning teams.
