The Wake Forest Demon Deacons will open up the Dave Clawson era Thursday night

Wake Forest will begin the Dave Clawson era at Malone Stadium Thursday night, as he spent the previous five years at Bowling Green, which is important to consider when making your Week 1 college football predictions.  John Wolford is slated to take the first snap of the season at quarterback for the Demon Deacons—making him the first true freshman signal-caller to start his first game on campus.  Clawson has indicated that a total of nine first-year players could make their collegiate debuts in this affair.

The Demon Deacons will try to gain revenge from a 21-19 loss to the WarHawks as 2.5-point home favorites last season, as they were out-gained by a 424-325 margin, while the game went UNDER the betting total of 50.  Wake Forest’s previous 31 head coaches have combined for a 17-14 record in their first game at the helm, while the program has produced a 53-56-3 all-time record in season openers.

Louisiana-Monroe is looking to even its record to 2-2 all-time when taking on Atlantic Coast Conference opponents, while it has won its first home game in five of the last six campaigns.  The Warhawks have won 14 games over the last two seasons—their most in any two-year span during the FBS-era, which can’t be ignored when looking over the college football odds page.  A lot of the team’s success can be attributed to its ability to force opponents into mistakes, as it has recorded a turnover in 26 consecutive games.

In the preseason Sun Belt Conference poll, the Warhawks were tabbed fifth by garnering 78 total points.  Among FBS programs that reside outside of the state of Texas, ULM’s 33 players from the Lone Star State ranks third nationally in that category.    Quarterback Pete Thomas will line up under center against the Demon Deacons for a second consecutive season, as he completed 27 of 43 passes for 257 yards and one touchdown as a member of the NC State Wolfpack.

Sports bettors will likely back the Warhawks due to their 3-1 ATS mark with a betting line of +3 to -3 the last two-plus seasons.
