The Michigan State Spartans are off to their best one-loss start in school history

Indiana had its two-game winning streak snapped last time out, as it suffered a 54-47 setback to the Northwestern Wildcats as 13-point home favorites, while going UNDER the betting total of 132.5.  The Hoosiers are fourth nationally in rebounding and third in differential in that all-important statistical category, which can’t be ignored when making your college basketball predictions Tuesday night.  The program’s nine wins over top-10 teams since 2011-12 trails only Kansas and Ohio State.  Indiana is 11-10 ATS on the road the last two-plus seasons.

The Hoosiers will need a major offensive performance from sophomore guard Kevin Ferrell to pull off the upset, as he leads the Big Ten Conference in averaging 19.2 points per game, which is up 9.8 a contest from a year ago.  Indiana also has a capable big man in freshman forward Noah Vonleh, who has six double-doubles during the 2013-14 campaign.  He leads the conference in scoring, rebounds and blocks among first-year players.

Michigan State is off to its best one-loss start in school history, as it prepares to face Indiana for the second time in less than three weeks, which is important to consider when looking over the college basketball lines.  The Spartans are expecting to be without big man Adreian Payne for a fourth consecutive contest, but they’ll likely have enough offensive firepower in the lineup, especially with sophomore Gary Harris’ career numbers in this series.  The sophomore has averaged 22.0 points in three meetings against the Hoosiers since arriving on campus.  Michigan State is 4-0 SU and 3-1 ATS as home favorites of 12.5 to 15 points since the start of the 2011-12 campaign.

The Spartans are a dominating 132-22 against conference opponents at the Breslin Center under longtime head coach Tom Izzo, while they’ve won 42 of their last 45 overall games at the venue.  Offensively, the team is averaging 80.4 points and hitting 47.9 percent of its shots, which has played a huge role in its +16.6-point scoring margin.

Sports bettors will likely back the Spartans due to the home team being 16-6 ATS in the last 22 meetings in this rivalry.
