The Georgetown Hoyas have failed to cover the spread in nine of their last 10 Big East Conference games

Cincinnati has won its last five Big East Conference road games dating back to last season, while also winning seven of the last eight.  The Bearcats are coming off a disappointing 57-55 defeat to the St. John’s Red Storm as 12.5-point home favorites on Saturday.  “The reason we lost, we weren’t ready to play,” commented Bearcats head coach Mick Cronin.  “We played as individuals.”  Sophomore guard Sean Kilpatrick is averaging a team-high 16.9 points and has scored 20 or more points four times this season.  Cincinnati is 6-13 ATS after suffering a loss versus a conference rival.

The Bearcats won both meetings against the Hoyas last season, but have split the eight all-time games in the series.  Cincinnati is hoping that Yancy Gates can continue to build on his recent play since coming off a suspension, combining for 16 points and 15 rebounds off the bench the last two games.  The team’s starting five has four players averaging double figures in scoring.

Georgetown enters today’s game with a 13-2 record and will look to bounce back from a 74-62 loss to the West Virginia Mountaineers as two-point road underdogs.  The Hoyas have actually dropped their last three games versus the spread.  Offensively, the team will need to shoot a lot better than it did against tonight’s opponent in two meetings a year ago, as it was limited to 28.7 percent shooting in dropping both games.  Georgetown is 4-2 ATS as a favorite this year, but 1-6 ATS after failing to cover the spread in three or more consecutive games the last two-plus campaigns.

The Hoyas rank second in the Big East and 14th nationally in allowing just 59.1 points per game, while scoring 73.4 points a game.  Georgetown is 31st among all major college basketball programs in shooting 47.5 percent from the field.  Senior guard Jason Clark leads the team in scoring with 15.5 points per game, followed closely by junior forward Hollis Thompson pouring in 14.3 points a contest.  Georgetown has used the same starting lineup through 15 games of the season, as that group has accounted for 74.3 percent of the team’s scoring.

Bettors will likely back the Bearcats due to their 4-1 ATS mark in the last five meetings, while the Hoyas are 1-9 ATS versus conference foes.
